So - I have acceped that I will be rejetting. I have ordered the proper mains (that's all I have to change, according to the rejetting calculator).

I've gone through Dinqua's amazing carb rejetting procedure site in detail. (really - if you haven't looked there - it's amazingly thorough - thanks!!)

The question I'm asking myself is, self? do you really need to pull the carbs just to change the main jets? It LOOKS like I could pull the bottom off the carbs, in place, replace the main jets, and reassemble. Fairly minimal disassembly required.

Has anyone tried this? (am I missing something?) That would sure speed up the process, and make it a fairly trivial activity.

(I also ordered replacement screws with allen heads, since I have read that the screws that are in there suck....what's another 5 bucks).

I eagerly await any opinions. Thanks!

Depends on the size of your hands.I have done this on the bike numberous times. Yep it's a pistol but pulling the carbs is a lot of work as well.
You need a combination of various gizmos. Spray some liquid wrench or something similar on the top side of the bowls screws and let set over night. Be careful you dont strip out the heads as most triumph screws are made of candle wax
Get on Fasy Eddys or Newspeedmaster. com and order a set of stainless carbs screws. Great investment. You can do this.

It's not speeding till you get pulled over.

I think I *have* to try it this way first. If it ends up being a Goat F, then I'll pull the carbs. (I can already hear myself telling my son "you spend more effort trying to do things the easy way, then you would have spent just doing it...." - wonder where he gets that....)

the left carb bowl screws are the fun ones. Seriously the brass oem bowl screws strip real easy. Like Mike says, use some liquid wrench on em the night before. Use a phillips head driver that is super snug too. Chances are you'll get lucky!

(drain the bowls first okay, and turn the fuel off. )

I tried to drop the bowls without pulling the carbs, but stripped a few screws. Like moe said, real easy to strip 'em. Replacing them with the allen heads is a good move. Pulling the carbs is not too bad and it gets easier each time you do it. Pat (Dinqua) has excellent step by step illustrations on his site.

I used pat's instructions and just went ahead and pulled them (so unlike me.....) - it went very well. Got done in about 1.5 hours (including changing out the pipes). and I have a much better idea where it all is.... thanks for the help and support!

I did it with carbs in place, ezpz and Im no mechanic by any means. there is a little right angle ratcheting wrench that takes hex bits that makes this job ez. Do yourself a favor and replace all the junk Phillips screws with ss socket screws . newbonneville sells them.
