I've been riding this year with no front fender, because I like the way it looks. However, living in upstate NY, the elements have finally broken me down. I can't take the water and gravel in my face any longer. I want to cut down my front fender, but I'd also like to lower it as close to the tire as possible. I know some of you have cut your fenders, but have any of you lowered them? I know the brace that's there won't work(for lowering purposes), so what have you used for mounting, when lowering it down slightly? Pics would be great if you have some.

Well, as you can see here Ian, I've cut down my front fender in order to kind of match my bobbed rear fender... However, as you can also probably see here, my front fender already sits pretty close to the tire, and that's just with the stock bracket holding it on. And so, I'm kind of questioning your idea to bring your front fender even closer to the tire. But, if you do decide to go ahead and try that anyway, I can't see why just "oblonging" the holes a little higher in the stock bracket and thus lowering it bit that way wouldn't be an option for ya.
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

That looks good Dwight, What size front tire you got there?
I have no faith in human perfectability. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active - not more happy - nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago.

I think you may be right. It's been a while since I had the fender, and bracket on. I remember it being higher than that. I don't have the bracket anymore, so I have no reference right now. What did you use to shape the fender. Jig saw..dremel? BTW nice job with the mods.

Thanks Chad. It pretty much just the standard Metzler ME880 110/90-18.

Thanks Ian. I used a hand-held sabre saw to first make the cut close to where I wanted it(don't forget to apply masking tape on both sides of the fender before you start cuttin'), and then I used my bench grinder to get to the exact line I had drawn on the tape, and to smooth out the cut.

Well Terry, I like the way this tyre...err TIRE(dang, you had ME doin' it there for a second! ) holds the road.
However, if your point was about Ian possibly goin' to, say, a 120 or higher tire and that it would come even closer to the front mudguard...err, FENDER(dang, there I go again! ), then in that case, that was a good point.
