I need new tires and would like to go with wide whitewalls. the dunlop k177 has been discontinued as far as i can tell. also, i am in canada so its harder to get stuff sometimes.
Maxxis has one - M6011 Classic Front (120/90/18) however, the state the overall width 4.90-4.96 inches but my math suggest it should be 4.25 inches ((120/25.4)*0.9)
does any one know of any other tires with WWW that will fit a stock rims?
thanks

one thing i just noticed, the Massis tire is for a 2.75 in rim width. our rims are 2.5, so i am guessing it would be a touch too wide?

Huh. I'm running an Avon Venom 130/70-18 and it requires a 3" wide rim. No problems here.

Thats only a 1/4 inch and 1/8 on each side.

I imagine they set those widths conservatively for liability reasons.

just remember if guy do this ..you change the contact patch by not letting the tire expand to it's full width and it's not safe ... I know it looks good but you can do the same thing by getting the right rim..... I know here in ny this going to getting tuffer to do if it's not OEM tire's most place won't even do them any more one guy was at the dealer trying to get a car tire put on his rocket "lots of rocket guys do this" dealer said noooooooooooooooooo OEM ONLY !!!!! our front rim is 2.5"
friar is running "Avon Venom 130/70-18 and it requires a 3" wide rim"
the Maxxis requires a 2.75", so its a 1/4 inch closer than what friar is using and he has not had any problems. also, the donlop k177 rim 120/90-18 requires a 3" rim and others have not reported problems.
i dont disagree with you, i am just thinking that i can get away with it.

Yeah, the rocket guys call that "going to the darkside."
I'm still not too worried about my 130/70. It's pretty fat. Sure it's not the same as if it was mounted on a 3" but I'm not too worried about the contact patch.

your not getting my point yes it will go on the rim ..but just because I can make it fit on the rim does not make right or safe... ED

No, I understand what you're saying. I also know that a lot of people are running tires that are too big. I think there is some leeway in the specs. But that's up to everyone to decide for themselves. I'm neither personally nor as a representative of this forum recommending that anyone exceed the specifications of any tire in either direction, too big or too small.

I say go as big as it take to run the tire right off the rim, then back off a size

thanks for all of the comments everyone.
just one last question. I got an email from the shop and the tech asked me if i really wanted to go with a Chinese tire (no offense to the chinese intended).
does maxxis make bad tires or something? I looked up reviews and they are mostly good (about twelve 5-star and two 1-star).
thanks
