Was planning on taking a cutting wheel to the fender of my new bike, but Maverick Customs in the UK make a fiber-glass replacement, already bobbed.

They have an Ebay shop and their sales history shows they have sold a few - anyone bought one?

Never bought one but am tempted if I lose my nerve when it comes to cutting.

I've been running 1 of their fiberglass guards for over 4 years no complaints, but it is starting to crack, so if your going to be carrying a pillion or quite a bit of gear strapped to the back I'd suggest cutting a steel 1

Fiberglass need a free float type of attachment, take a look at a fglass doghouse on a large truck, rigid mounting will eventually cause cracks. Oversize mount holes with rubber grommets will slow the cracking way down. BTW, I have one of these fenders on the shelf, nice quality item, but the shipping, ouch.

Lucky I'm an ex-pat working in the US and still have a house in the UK. Means I travel back and forth regularly and can avoid some of the the shipping cost (as long as I plan ahead).

I have put one on order, but will take special carry with trying to isolate the mountings - even if it does crack with time I will have a good template against which to cut the metal one.

Bonniebob rant

Quite suprised to hear a complaint about the quality of the products from Maverick as everyone is usually very happy with the products produced.

The only thing I can say is contact him, I know he is very good to deal with and also offers a 12 month gurantee...

A calmer me...

After some internet digging this weekend I have discovered Scot Mc Blade (in this case bonniebob) is an alias being used by a petty local seat recoverer (Matt Caulfield, also registered as member caulfield leather on here.) to access forums and slander Maverick Customs claiming to be a disgruntled customer in an attempt to tarnish our reputation for Good Quality and Service. (Both in the UK and Internationally). This will be dealt with appropriately in due course.

However, Back on topic...

The fenders I produce are GRP with an average thickness between 4-6mm, optimising strength whilst leaving a little flexibilty for fitting. They are capable of carrying an average pillion or luggage quite easily. I Have used mine for the last 3 years in all weathers with a pillion on occasion, and loaded up with luggage too (for dent especially, thanks to John for bringing the kitchen sink & fireplace). It has no cracks or marks in the paintwork etc. which was done before fitting. The shop finish is a primer gelcoat allowing for any additional modifying and fitting before final prep and paint, (this is for your convenience)this is also reflected in the very good value price.

I am presently testing a full length version of the fender which will be slightly more expensive, but also more versatile. When I am happy with the product I will price it and list it for sale too..

I will not sell an item that I'm not happy to use myself, being from an engineering background my standards are pretty high too..

If anyone has any queries please contact me, I will be happy to discuss any products with you..
