Given the average age of their core riding group, this in addition to their Trike could help them retain the faithful. I agree with Friar, their pricing would be so high it would not be a consideration even if I was interested in a 3 wheeler.

You mean Harley has no more ideas and this is the last one. They were at a board meeting and asked. "Any new ideas?" And the answer was nope this is the last one.

Yep Mike, and before they did THAT, those board members did EVERYTHING they could to step on or otherwise interfere with many of the imaginative ideas and designs of the guy whose name was on those bikes too.
But hey, as most any of those "insular" Harley riders out there will tell ya, "Hey, it was Harley's money, and so they could do whatever the hell they wanted to do with it!", OR the ever-popular, "Eeh! Well, we didn't want any o' them there "Crotch-Rockety" kinda things anyway!"
(...YEP, one sure can't or at least SHOULDN'T ever put the phrase "New Ideas" and the name "Harley-Davidson" and/or many, if not MOST of their customers mindset, in the same sentence, alright!!!)

I don't mind the crotch rockety things as long as they leave the power ranger costume at home

But the one pictured is the closest configuration to the Harley concept that I dare say would be quite a bit more than $16k.

Yeah John, I think that's just about the price of a bare-bones model Spyder.
The cool thing about this Harley stillborn model was that it leaned into turns like a bike, unlike the Can-Am trikes....though I read in Motorcyclist or CW a few months back that Can-Am has filed patents to their own design for Spyders that will lean. And so, the magazine article guessed that it won't be long until Can-Am will start making such an animal too.

They're pretty fast but don't feel good in the corners as they don't lean. You should test ride one.

The reverse trike seems a great idea, most of your stopping power is up front and that configuration would allow quite a bit of braking force.

snowmobile on wheels  . the way it grabs every groove in the road and the steering is like an F-1 with no lean around corners.  not for me. if the day comes that i cant hold a 2 wheel upright anymore, i may elect to ride a trike but, it wont be that one.

The seating position on the Spyder was way too cramped for me. I like a little leg room.

My wife and I tried the Spyder cruising version at Thunder Beach in Panama City, FL last May. I didn't like the riding position which was very upright with limited leg room. My wife felt our America (with the 07 pillion seat and tall backrest) was more comfortable.
I've been looking for a touring bike but haven't found what I want yet. Not giving up the America as long as I can ride.

 Have you done the 904 kit ? I did plus an additional 3.5 degree rake on front and it is ( IMO) the perfect platform for touring now.....I haven't "bagged it out" as of yet but with a good stylish set and a highway shield.... I think it is comparable to my friends HD Heritage.....
there is always the BEAST know as the RIII tourer too if one wants to stay in the Triumph stable...

Have the 904, fine with the stock rake, have bags and shield. I travel on the bike but would like another bike for long distance travel. I limit my America to about 400 miles, but prefer 250 miles or less in a day. I don't plan on selling the America if I buy a touring bike as I still love the bike. Maybe a Triumph Trophy if they ever come out with a new one. I don't like sport tourers - prefer to sit up or lean back.

I'm not a harley guy by any stretch.....and particularly not a sportster fan. However.....I will give credit where it's due - I have been into the harley dealer lately and saw this on the showroom floor http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/56213/Moto...First-Ride.aspxI was actually a little impressed that they took this much of a departure. If I were into more of a sport bike style, I'd probably consider this bike.

Oh yeah! I've loved the XR1200 since Harley came out with 'em a few years back!  (...though Hasso, you DO know that those are more a Repli-Flat Tracker/Standard than they are a "Sportbike", don't ya?!...or at least what has now become known as a Sportbike, anyway)

I guess it's all subjective. I have many riding friends who have no trouble at all with their HD's.
These models won't rip thru the twisties like ours but as far as just cruising they are very nice.

If someone forced me to buy a harley, I'd get a street bob in dark rootbeer color. (not that I've looked, mind you ) But if someone DIDN'T force me, then my next bike is likely a thunderbird.
