Has anyone had trouble with burn across top of shoulders on long trips? I was wondering if wide handle bars might be causing this. I do not have this problem on my other bike and the bars are narrower. Are any of the other Triumph bars narrow? Just tring to find the cause and fix it. Thanks James in Arkansas

I have that exact same problem sometimes. I've tried rivco pull backs on my stock bars, helped a little. I'm sure some of the folks on here will have other suggestions.

I installed pull backs on my bars also. Rode 2200 miles from Arkansas to Colorado and back 4 weeks ago and suffered most of the way.

As much as it could be the position of the bars, it could also be your seat and lack of back rest. Just something to think about.

I have a custom adj. back rest. I have pulled bars back, raised up, and lowered. None of this hepled. My friend that rode with me to Colorado had the same problem on his honda 1800 vtx. His bike has wide bars. Are any of the other Triumph bars narrower? James in Arkansas

Other Triumph bars are narrower such as Speedmaster bars but there is a host of options out there when it comes to bars. I often think I'd like to switch to buckhorns which are narrower and put the hands at a different angle.

I think its the width. The advantage to the wide bars is fulcrum giving better control in short spaces. On the highway its not really a natural position IMHO> I simply hit the throttle lock and take turns with my hand off the bar or move my hands in about 6" holding the control boxes for a bit.

I have thought buckhorn bars but wondered if they would be to narrow and the problem there might be installing them. I have a harley sportster also and have a set of buckhorns I put on it. Had to change clutch and brake cables.

Riding long distance regardless of the handlebars etc will take a toll on the muscles in your shoulders etc. The better condition that they are in the less you will suffer. I have done weights every second day and situps every day for the past 25 years- If I stop for what ever reason such as illness and then undertake a long ride my shoulders etc sure let me know. Most riders about to undertake a long tour etc start an exercise program before they go just for this reason. It also comes in handy when you have to lift a pint!!! A 100 sit ups a day will work miracles with the lower back on long rides.Try it-it works!

sorry to hijack a bit, but i too have some issues with the bars so forward, i have always had a week back due to an accident many ears ago, i would like to find new risers that i can use the factory bars with and not have to take any of the cables off etc. I don't want to loose the look of the bars, just a bit back that's all, recommendations???

Any of the harley risers will work but you have to drill the top of tree. Probably any one inch risers will work. Honda, yahama, suzuki might have the same size bolt as Triumph.

I was thinking about this thread while out on a 5 hour ride today. With a Corbin seat/backrest, RIVCO pullback risers, and stock bars adjusted back and towards me, I experienced no discomfort. Stock setup didn't work for me... now I have things dialed in quite nicely for my 5'7" frame.

'07? This implies they have risers for other years? What's the difference and why does it matter if you have to go elsewhere for risers?

Ok I have to throw in a plug to go visit your friendly neighborhood chiropractor. It could be an alignment issue with your back and neck and not your bars.

You dont need to drill them. what you need are diffrent bolts like these!! http://www.shopscootworks.com/ScootWorks...;catalogId=-799

well apparently BC is about to release their own riser for the speedmaster, i am holding off on some goodies until they are ready to ship which should be in a day or so, apparently they look allot like the America ones but can't be certain.

Well I came in Friday and put a pair of buckhorn bars I had bought for the sportster on the Triumph. Rode the bike this morning 62 miles and did not feel even a little bit of burn in my sholders. The bars are 27" wide to the stock Triumph bars at 33 1/2" wide. I konw this is far from a long ride but its a start. I did not have to change a thing. Used stock risers, grips, everything from stock bars except bar ends. I had some black plugs that came with the buckhorn bars that looked like they came with the Triumph grips.

This is the real key folks. Motorcycle riding is a physical activity so the better physical shape you are in, the more enjoyable it will be.
I'll take issue with your 100 sit ups a day though Kent. The number will seem daunting to many.
Instead I recommend a strength training program of weights, Pilates and cardio fitness. Get some professional guidance if you're not familiar with proper form and technique. I'll stop there as I could go on for some time, PM me if you want some advice on choosing a gym/trainer.
And injuries and weakness are not reasons to not train. I have no ACL in my left knee and had major rotator cuff surgery 1 1/2 years ago, as well as abdominal surgery six years ago that left an inscisional hernia that had to be repaired. I lift three or four days per week, do Pilates, and of course cardio training.
My wife has two titanium rods in her back and lifts weights and does Pilates and cardio right along with me.
