From FJ's idea in the OH YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME! HD story thread, I had a great idea... list the usual answers/questions/facts...

Yes, they still make them
No, they are not made by Harley Davidson
They never stopped making them, continious production since 1902.
790cc
No problem two up.
I get parts at the Triumph dealer
No, it's not a vintage bike.
No, its not restored
You're right, they don't make them like this anymore, in '05 they got a slightly larger motor.

Hmmmm...soooo, you want our answers to the most commonly asked questions we get, eh Soren?!

-Okay, then here ya go:

-Yep, its still a British company.

-No, the car and motorcycle company split off from each other in 1936 and became separate entities.

-Well, one of the reasons is because I don't particularly want to ride a brand of motorcycle that everybody and brother already rides. I'm kinda "different" that way, ya see.

-It's because I like my motorcycles to be able to handle well. They're much more fun to ride when they're able to do that, ya know.

-Yeah, I see those Harley riders are all pissed off over there because everybody is ignoring their Fat Boys, Heritage Low Riders and Screaming Eagle Rama-Dama-Ding-Dong FXQURSTUVWXYZs, and have come over here to admire my Triumph. So what of it? I see it all the time, dude!

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

I love those answers. Will use some of them in the future.

Because this is the bike I wanted.
The dealership right here in town.
1" longer than a fat boy, but 200 lbs lighter.
I prefer it 10:1.

I like that. I think I'll just use the 'invitation' part, though.

Dwight and I, being of such similar minds, will probably enjoy using the costume party comment too.

Yep Larry, but just be sure to always say the line just as Robert Newton playin' Long John Silver here would've said it...and just like how I responded to Stew up there!

(...I think that might give it a little more of "a punch", as those actors say!...now repeat after me: "That'll be 'cause I wanted me a motorsickle, NOT one o' them thare lifestyles, an' a invi-TA-tion to one o' them thare fancy-pants costume-y parties!")

One of the Harley cult once asked me why I didn't have all the leather clothing he and his buddies were wearing. I told him it just seemed a little too Village People for my taste. He just nodded and turned away. I'm not sure he got it but his wife, who gave me the stink eye, certainly did. "Sorry, no leather chaps for me man."

No it doesn't leak oil.
Yes I did check the radar-that's why I'm wearing these rain pants.

Points taken, however, try riding a late model retro Moto Guzzi. You get all these questions and then some.

My Uncle had two Guzzi's. He was regularly asked what "Moto Guzzi" meant. He always answered, without batting an eye, "it's Italian for "oral sex"".

This was my answer to a HD riding co-worker who pointed out that I made way more money than he did, then wanted to know if I had financial problems and couldn't afford the HD.

He still didn't understand. Maybe his do-rag is too tight? (one of my regular lines in my HD dominated workplace).

I like all the comments,
..however I do like my chaps. A "DOrag" soaked with ice water under your helmet will go a long way in the heat. (I have not worn my chaps for a while due to the heat, but love them in the fall/winter)

A lot easier to clean a du do, dew, doo rag (sorry 'bout the stutter) than the inside of a helmet. As for chaps... they might not save your ass from rash in a crash but they work for deflecting bugs, wind and rain.

My favorite, outside a tire store back in '06. An old timer, at least in his 90s, walked over and said: "Do they still call them Trumpets?" I replied, "Yep they still do." After some small talk he said: "I had a '34(?) Indian." I said "I bet you wish you had that here right now." He let out a long low "Yeaaah."

Are you sure Soren?

When I was first looking at Triumphs, I was looking at the 06 model America and they were 790 cc. Then when I got serious about getting a Triumph, I was pleasantly surprised to see the 07 had the 865 cc engine.

05 SM had the 865 and 06 BA was supposed to have the 865 but maybe that is a production date thing.

Here's a weblink talking about the TBA over the years:
Triumph Twin Power and the TBA

The 2007 models were the ones with the bigger 865 cc engine. Although I think there's a typo in the 2007 engine specs, after they just specifically mentioned how engine size was increased from 790 to 865cc (lol - oops).

And they still don't rattle around like a Harley at a stoplight. I saw one H-D at a stop light, a few months ago, I thought the engine was going to rattle out of the frame!!

OK, made me look. Mine was mfg 11/05, was sold & titled as an '06 and has the 790. That may be the difference and explain why some parts catalogs (K&N for one) don't list the 790 in 2006.
