Turn Signals flashing way too fast...

Just installed new rear flasher, standard not LED. I got the Mini Retro Bulletts from British Customs.

When I fist hooked them up, the right side flashed fast. I moved that signal tot he left and it flashed fast there too. I took them both apart, all the same, but switched the bulbs...Hmmm, that seemd to work.
\I installed them with the new lay down license bracked and they both flash fast...WTH?

Any Ideas?

Sounds like you got bad bulbs or a wire crossed.
Fast flashing lights are usually a blown bulb or addition of LED. You say they are not LED so take that off the table.
If your certain a bulb isn't blown or damaged then check your wiring.

The only visible difference between the rear light wires is that the right pair has a piece of tape holding them together. You may have a couple of wires crossed so check your connections again.

I have had bulb filaments vibrate apart and reweld to the other filament twice now, makes for a real mind boggle to figure out, albeit both times were 4 wheel vehicles. Now I check for faulty bulbs first when my signals/markers go awry.

These bulbs are 2 filament bulbs, unbeknownest to me when I bought them...
So it seems they could be wired as running lights as well, which I dont want, so what I need to do, is take the runninjg light wire from these signals and remove it from the equation, then run a ground wire from the signals to the Black Wires that are comming off the wiring harness.
Should be wasy since the signal housing is metal...

Thoughts?

Didnt they come with any documentation about the wiring...even in a general format?

I had some silver bullets that were dual filament. I grounded the housing and only used one wire. I used the wire that made them brighter and no issues.

Mmmm... might be possible that that won't work. I'm thinking of the two off centre contacts at the bottom of the socket vs. the single contact in the centre of the 1156. Or would there still be just enough contact to make it work?

Were the front indicators flashing too?

Everything flashed fast.
If i put a single filament in it makes the tail light flash.
I gotta ground em, and remove the extra wire, thats all.

Z- no instructuons of any kind, and british customs never answered my emails so i just ordered them. Also the lay down plate works great!

Yep, that's the right track, just be sure to choose the filament lead that has the higher resistance so your flasher sees a proper load.

... and so you get the brightest of the two filaments.

Ba Ding, thought of that in my sleep this morning Keith. But hae maybe you got somthin there about the conection being offset enough not to make contact. How about running a wire to the tail light to run the running lights and join the other two to the signals.

I have these lights and I had the same problem. The metal housing is what grounds the lights and the rear signals were not grounded. I used the black wire from the bikes original turn signals to ground the housing and taped off the new signal's red wire and I plugged in white to white. Worked like a charm.

Oh man!! I'm going to jail!!

Thats pretty much what i did, but i still get the fast blink, so i just ordered a new flasher microproslcessor. Lets see if that works.

BTW, Old Bulbs 12V 21W which is a 1.75A draw, new Bulbs 12v 8W which is a 0.67A draw...maybe if I had wired both filaments together it would have flashed properly.
I may try that if I ever decided to take it apart again.

What if you wire the two filaments in series?

Ed, if he wired them in series, he'd end up with the same draw but only 6v across each filament, So they'd still flash quickly, but dull-ly (dullly?). Not very brightly

Betcha a dollar that if you get yourself a LED flasher, the problem will go away. Go to http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/s...%2Fflashers.htm and order the CF13GL-02. Unless the bulbs you have are 1157s, the smaller bulbs draw current almost like an LED.

I got the LED microprocessor from new bonneville, and with in 5mins of opening the box the bit was installed and the lights worked properly...oh yeah... ;-)

Now take off that flasher and seal the bottom of the flasher housing with some silicon. If you get it wet its gonna sound like tap dancing chipmunks in your gas tank.
