Hey guys,I am experiencing a clunk or loud tick when starting off from a stop.I suspect clutch tabs or basket wear.Has any one had any similar experience.I only have 15,000 miles on it. I recently spooned on new tires and adjusted the chain, the noise was there previosly.

Could be the cush drive. Try replacing with a cush drive from a late 90's Thunderbird Sport. Some clunking is normal though

Yea its for much higher torque. And horse power.

It could be worn sprocket(s), or dry chain or both. Perhaps try hitting that chain with some fresh lube to see if it makes a difference.

It's most likely either the rubber cush-drive unit that's inside your rear wheel hub housing which is worn, OR it could just be the rear brake torque arm plate that's hitting the flange on your swingarm. Sometimes there's just enough of distance between those two units that it causes a "clunk" sound when operating the rear brake and/or right after you hit the gas again.

Nope, I don't think it's the clutch.

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Thanks Dwight I am goimg to investigate the brake anchor hole . Just as you descibe after using brakes and accellerating from a stop. The chain is lubed les than 500 miles ago.I think I will look into thunderbird cush drive as well.Have you ever watched your sprocket when taking off ? WOW thats alot of movement ! Thanks all

I shimmed up my cush drive with equal pieces from of an old belt. Tighted it right up. that was 4000km ago and just like new. Didn't cost anything but my time.

just how well adjusted is your chain?
had something similar on my Speedmaster, turned out to be the chain slapping against the bottom of the swingarm
right up the front just behind the pivot point
get a friend to watch while you go to take off,you wont have to go far, maybe they will be able to pin point where the noise is coming from
