Who is running these carbs and what is the verdict on the actual real world performance and ease of use compared to the CVK's. Is the coversion a huge improvement or just so so. I know I have asked this before but can't remember what the answers were.

I have the 39 FCRs and oh yes, there is a big difference compared to the CVKs. The throttle response is awesome. You can do all of the tweaking there is with the CVKs and still not get into the realm of the FCRs. I would say they are not for the unhandy/mechanically challenged as they are have a lot of adjustments and tuning potential to sort thru. Also keep in mind these are racing carbs and do not have niceties like a choke and require more fiddling around at startup than would a normal street setup.

How hard is it to cold start the bike?...I have heard it is one to two twists then start. You have to keep giving gas until the bike warms up...that is you can't cold start and ride away...My issue is I ride to work between 6 and 6:30 and don't want to be idling the bike on the side street...

I too usually head to work at 0600 and try to not wake the neighbors (well I don't really try that hard).
It actually starts better cold than the original carbs, keeping it running/idling cold is another matter. I have worked up a little 'ritual' that seems to be effective. I turn the idle speed screw in 2 full turns and slowly twist the throttle 5 to 7 times and then light her up. Starts on the first hit. It does not idle high when cold, even with the idle screw cranked in. I don't lower the idle until I am actually riding and then I with just wind it down as I ride along.

I appreciate the info. My kid's Yamaha racing quad had an FCR39 and once I got it setup correctly it started and ran great even in the winter months. There is a company called JD jetting that makes excellent products for the FCR when used on the Yamaha quad. Also installed a little thing called a "quick shot" which boosts the fuel volume from the accelerator pump when you whack the throttle. Works great on the modified quad but would probably be way overkill on our bikes.

Who are you referring to Fast Freddy? I gave up trying to get in touch with him. I actually bought a spare set of carbs that I was going to have him work over after spending much time with him on the phone then he diapeared off the site and does not answer his phone any more. So I am leaning towards the FCR's as well.

You are real comedian Marty. Don't get me on a rant about our good friend Fast Fred. That name is very fitting.

I feel bad for you guys, I really do. Especially since I was the one that actually got the carbs from him and recommended his work to everyone here. Had I only known he was a shyster...

Yeah, that was one excuse. Besides, he got better and had a chance to make things right. He chose the low road.

Don't feel bad he had good references from others including TPUSA Carlos. Fred did the performance head work for them. There were many factors involved, I wish he would have just come clean and told the truth. I think that bothers me as much as all the money and parts he owes me.

I didn't realize that he actually owed people products after they were already paid for! I guess I am lucky, I am out $150-$200 for the carbs I bought but I still have them. That sucks that he still has your head and money and whatever else he has of yours, sorry to hear that. If he was getting out of it the least he could have done was return money and parts to the customer. That is a shame too it sounded like he could have got some good business from our site alone.

Fred s stated phone number (770-572-9098) is still viable, I just got his voicemail, if he was into me for $$$ and parts, I'd visit the M.F. ,pull him onto the porch and shake all the money out of his pockets.

Sounds like a good idea, but for the Canadian guys it would probably cost more to make the trip than they are owed.

I am conficted with regards to mr fast fred. On one hand I had a number of very productive conversations with him about headwork, both practical and theoretical (that I was able to put to good use), then on the other hand, I have a pile of 36mm CVKs (that I bought for cores)and custom made balancing screws and over size butterflies, etc... setting in my shop, as well as the machining fixtures, all waiting on a deal that never came thru.
