I have to chime in here for Texas as well. 66% of all bikes in Texas are Harley's, just a demographic. But I always get waves and only the odd person doesn't. And even with that I figure that like me, they may be preoccupied in other thoughts (such as the cage or turn ahead of me). We have the friendly rips, but that's about it. The only place I don't get respect is at the HD dealers. They don't know what to think and usually avoid a comparison discussion.

I talk and even shake hands with Kent1969 from time to time, (Even though he rides one of them vertical twin things) and most of you know what I ride. Jo & I are going out for dinner with Kent and his wife Chanelle in the not to distant future. That reminds me, I haven't told him yet. I'll give him a call tonight and wave over the phone.

Have read all these posts with interest. Reminds me of a guy I rode with in NZ years ago. Bob McKenzie who drove a truck for a local firewood company and not endowed with the readies so to speak. Rode a old 750 Kwacka that he knew every nut and bolt on. Turned out for runs came rain hail or shine and would always stop to help a biker broken down even in the rain. Would pass on his knowledge to new members of our club and would ride tail end Charlie all day if asked without complaint. Bob is in his mid eighties now and no longer rides due to medical issues but in my eyes that is a biker my friends!

So Kent, do ya know if Bob's brother Doug ever immigrated down there from Canada too?
(...they always seemed kinda inseparable to me, anyway)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Do not think so Dwight. Imagine those Indian call centres trying to sell a phone plan to these dudes. Downunder would look like a bunch of Einsteins!!!!!!

...though I have to admit, here in Arizona whenever I pull up behind a line of slow movin' Harley riders out there on the road, it seems to me that those Harley riders around here are inclined to NOT wave at those riding anything other than big chromey cruisers comin' the opposite direction....though, I could me mistaken about that, but I doubt it...yep, it seems to me that these AZ Harley riders around here are a little less inclined to take their left hand off their handlebars and acknowledge those folks ridin' sportbikes and dual-sport bikes comin' in that opposite direction, alright...but "maybe" that's just here in Arizona, huh?!...
I've noticed the same thing. AZ Harley riders will usually wave if I'm coming towards them on my Speedmaster - but never when I'm on the Tiger.

Sure seems to be a lot of you guys who care if the Harley rider guys accept you enough to wave. Its been my experience that most of the sport bike riders ride in a way that disregards other vehicles on the road. That in a very real way endangers them selves and others. In fact I have never seen a sport bike with as many miles as mine has on it that is not scraped up, or banged up. I personally have a low opinion of them my self. Although I am never rude on the road and wave to who ever waves to me. I don't initiate the gesture to sport bike riders.
I have no faith in human perfectability. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active - not more happy - nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago.
