Project Silverback sneak peek

I met a guy who works at this place last weekend. They routinely crank out 240 hp from the Rockets they modify.

He said Triumph gave them 10 Rockets "to play with." the plan is that Carpenter would become for Triumph what Shelby is for Ford.

They are also experimenting with Tbirds and have gotten 180 hp from them, and are getting ready to introduce a package for the bird.

Really interesting stuff...

Nice find here, Joe! And, it's nice to see that Triumph Corporate is funding this project.

(...they've always stuck me as being a bit tight with the ol' purse-strings)

After a difficult early adjustment period, I gotta admit I'm now in the midst of an all-out love affair with my R3T. Now if I can just source $6k to have the evil Dr. Carpenter turn it into a 240 horsepower monster...

Yeah Joe. I just read your piece in the "Quotes about this website" forum, and I was wonderin' how exactly your "disillusionment" all came about with your R3, 'cause you really didn't delve into that over there, as you know.

(...and not that I'm tryin' to sidetrack this thread o' yours here at all...you know how much I've always attempted to refrain from doin' that sorta thing around here, right?!)

Dwight, it was just an adjustment period. The Rocket is a big bike and comes with big bike issues - harder to maneuver at low speed, generates a lot of heat, guzzles more gas. I went to a dealership last Saturday fully expecting to take a loss on the Rocket purchase and trade it for a lightly-used Tbird they had in stock. After test riding the standard Tbird and the Storm, I concluded that I LOVE my Rocket. It has so much character and personality. I still miss my America and I'm sorry I traded it - I'd like to have it for an 'around town' bike. I still may buy one back when the timing is right.

Thanks for the reply, Joe. So basically the issue for a while was gettin' used to the heft of the bigger bike, huh?!

Yep, I can see that.

These bikes are for riders that want a combination of comfort and brutal horsepower

What he said

After the trouble I had with my gearbox then the timing chain tensioner falling to pieces and another engine re-build, I was looking to chop my R3 in.
Now it's 'fixed', nothing else makes you go quite like the R3 does.

Was drooling over the R3 touring and roadster at a demo truck stop this weekend. I like the looks of the roadster ALOT! But for a tourer I don't see how you could beat the R3 touring. Thing looks like an easy chair crossed with a winnebago. It was HUGE! Didn't get a chance to ride it. Maybe next year. Not ready to add to the stable yet anyway. Just doing some long range planning and research.
