Greetings..I will be picking up my new 2005 America on Monday. I have looked through the archives and messages for hints where to find accessories, like just the basics for starters (windshield before riding season, and bolt on saddlebags, hopefully that will lock). When I pick up the bike I am supposed to get a discount on accessories...but we will see how good that discount really is! The Triumph bags do seem too small and I think their windshields are, too. I also need a backrest and sissybar so I can load my luggage for trips. So...if there is no aftermarket stuff out there, I will press them for a really good discount...I'll bet that will work. yea, right. I hope they don't consider 'accessories' clothing. Don't need clothing...want bike stuff!! I am familiar with some of the usual places to hunt for bike stuff, but that was for a Harley (don't throw rocks) but this Triumph is a whole new deal. I'm pretty excited for the riding weather now. I think it will be a more comfortable ride, better cruising speed and more surprises I probably don't even know about yet. The sportster is the only bike I've driven. My HD was very reliable and a good bike but after 10 years, I am ready for something else. Thanks for your help in my search!!

Welcome! Congratulations on your new BA. I just got my 2005 just a month ago. I loved the look of the bike after seeing the 2002 when they were introduced...waited three years to get it. The Back rest from triumph is pricy but I like it better than others I've seen...there is a thread here called "other Mfgs accesories that fit our bike's" rumor has it that if you want a memphis shades wind screen you need to order the mounting kit for the Susuki VZ800 Murader...as far as the bags I have the Triumph bags and they are very small...many others here use the easy brackets for their bags and pretty much any bag you like that looks right. www.mascycles.com , www.bellacorse.com , and most importantly www.newspeedmaster.com , those should keep your credit card burning hot for quite some time

Doesn't matter. The model year is still 2002. They do the same thing with automobiles. The introduce the next year's models the Fall season before the year ever starts.

Sidekick,
Chrome stuff. Check out the dealer or Fast Eddy's link above. The peg hangers, battery cover and primary cover totally transforms the bike. I can send you pics if you want to see the difference. I think you can see the primary and peg hangers in my signature link.
I try to aggravate one person a day. Today may be your day.

Welcome Sidekick and Tri70. I used to know what those black rubber plugs were for, but as I'm typing this, I can't remember. The blanked off switch by throttle is headlight on-off, not available in U.S. (threw that in because my salesman told me it was cruise control)

Oh goodie. Thanks for the help. Now my husband won't be at a loss on what to buy me for all those 'special occasions'...bike jewelry!! Gotta go read about pipes now. I will miss setting off car alarms! My Sportster wasn't real loud but at least a driver knew something was coming.

Welcome. You might want to look at the Memphis Shades "Fats" windshields. They are slightly larger than the Triumph Roadster screen. Just saw them on Competition Accessories website for $199 including the mounting hardward. Our bike use Suzuki Marauder fork mounts.

Welcome aboard the triumph wagon Sidekick. Where abouts are you located? As mentioned above, you can do far better price and quality wise with aftermarket stuff as opposed to the triumph stuff. The Triumph chrome is far less than desirable, the bags small and they also tear easily (on the ones i have seen at least) and their TOR pipes, well, for the same money you can get some Specialty Spares, Epcos, etc etc. First things firts - get the Air Injection stuff off ASAP (keeps the pipes from bluing) and then unleash the power, pull the snorkle, get real pipes and probably rejet the carbs. Then think about trinkets and do-dads. And put Brent in your bookmarks, or better yet, on speed-dial. You and Brent will soon become well acquainted. Most of all, ride safe, enjoy and practice saying stuff like, "Yea, they do still make them." "It's brand new", "Yea, I had one then too", "Really, you paid how much for that Harley??" Oh, and get used to taking compliments about how sweet your bike looks.
A word to the wise is not necessary. It is the stupid ones who need the advice.

Welcome aboard.
First up those rubber bungs in the console are for the alarm LED (left) and clock adjustment (right). Dinqua's spot on with those initial mods - cheapest way of stopping your pipes going blue and getting the motor doing what it's supposed to be doing, instead of what the environmentalists want it to do.
For better silencers there's lots of choices that are much better than the Triumph ones - I prefer Staintunes but that's probably coz they're made down-under, like me. Thunderbike pipes are another good one too.
For bolt on bags you don't mention wether you're looking for soft or hard ones. If it's soft you can either buy bags of your choice with some easybrackets but that means modifying the bags to suit. You can also get K-Drive bags which come with their own bolt on bracket to which the bags clip & lock. Brent sells them (and bunches of other custom parts).
While we're talking about luggage for big trips, the Biker's Friend works well on our bike, and you can find lots of sissbar bags like the T-bags that work well too. You can even pull a trailer if you want to get really excessive.
I'd be surprised if the Triumph Roadster screen wasn't big enough for you, but if not both National Cycles and Memphis Shades sell bigger screens - as ssjones mentioned you can use Suzuki Maurader mounts for them.
Backrests are slim pickings for our bikes if you want aftermarket ones - the OEM ones are well made but expensive. Corbin make backrests to go on our bikes with their custom seats which many folks here will recommend, or you can buy one of the backrests to suit various HD's that bolt to the rear fender below the pillion seat.
Finally if you're a DIY-er and you want to try some your hand at some custom mods, I've got a website that details several that I've done.
Hope that lot helps you out...
Matt

Thanks. I have ordered from fast eddy. great stuff! I've already gotten some things. My favorite was the cheapest! the Union Jack that goes on the brake reservoir cover. And I found some great things on e-bay, too.

Like most things in life...the fun is in the hunt! Plus you get to play detective and find stuff that works...Just remember not all of the parts are made by Triumph some (like callipers) are made by others (who also supply to others) so you may find a direct fit on a Kawi, or Yamaha...so go for it (then let us know what you find)

hahaha that's what I get for doing it by hand in the middle of the night at work on a cr@ppy laptop :P And of course I can't edit it anymore... maybe moe or phil can fix it for me? Oh well, if www.brandname.com doesn't work, google it.

Welcome sidekick, One of the best parts for me on owning a speedmaster was making the bike my own.My preferences tend to lean towards the classic looks.I have done quite a bit of dressing up on my bike. Some of my favorites, you can get from the dealer,is the knee pads and the vintage looking eye brow tank badge(which I have)or the garden gate tank badge. You will find that your bike will get a lot of looks and compliments even from the old school Harley guys. The thing that gets noticed and complimented the most is my tank badge. So if you realy want your bike to stand out I would recomend any of the classic tank badge styles
