I thought I'd try to "organize" a day trip for Saturday August 6th in East Tennessee. A convenient meeting point would be Cleveland, TN; that's about half-way down (or up) between me and Mikemm03 and a fair jumping off point. A good time to start would be 9am. We'll head west toward Fall Creek Falls state park, skirt around Savage Gulf state park and scoot up the western slope of Monteagle (the legendary Rocky Top) to stop at Jim Oliver's Smokehouse for mid-day grub. After eats we'll slip over to Sewannee and take the lesser traveled road down through Sherwood to Stevenson, AL and hook back up along the west side of the Tn. River toward Jasper, Dunlap and that nice twisty stretch to Graysville before returning to the hook up spot. Ought to be about 250+ miles or so of twists, sweepers and just plain great scenery.

We could throw in a loop around the Little River Canyon next to my home town but that's adding another 100 miles south.

Open to any suggestions or modifications, who wants to ride?

Hey Ed,
Sounds like a great day's ride. I'm marking that weekend on my calendar; still got some details to work out on this end, but will plan on being there.

I love that ride down into Stevenson... even if it was 32 or 33 Fahrenheit degrees the last time I did it.

I still have a scouting run to make but I'm thinking that the meeting point will be the Mapco on Georgetown Pike at exit 25 off I-75 in Cleveland, TN. 9:00am EDT. I'll post more when I actually scout the first leg of the run.

Well, I'm still out on a west coast swing that ends outside Edmonton, AB this coming Saturday so I haven't managed to pull off the scouting trip. I'm planning on riding the route either way, it'll just be the 4th before I can make any intelligent remarks about the plan. It's going to be a last minute deal at this point but loosey goosey makes for a stimulating day, eh?

Yah, I'm not too worried that we won't have fun :-) Still in transit from Camrose, Alberta and I don't expect to be back for another 24 hours but I should still be able to get in a quick ride to the meeting point just to insure it's valid. Meanwhile, I'll use the cell modem and start logging hwy numbers and turns with my pal Google Maps.

North Dakota sure is pretty today.

Got back late last night, Alberta to Alabama in less than two days, thanks to our driving staff. Ought to be able to squeeze in a bit of scouting this week and I hope to nail down the meet spot Wednesday. Film at 11....

Alas, pouring rain and lots of electrical activity scuttled the scouting trip today and I'll be going by route numbers and a paper map :-) . So, Mapco, Cleveland, TN exit 25 I-75 on the north/west side of the interstate. I'll be there before 9 am for an anticipated 9:30 roll time.

Tried to gather a few riders but their either camping, at the beach or already committed to their love interest for saturday.
May be just to hot for them

Better not come down, I've suddenly got no spark. She was running good when I parked her two weeks ago; now no spark. Time to get out the meter and start poking around. Ouch...

Sounds like what I need to do, and want to do, but my bike is showing thread on the rear tire, front ain't much better, and need a chain...52k on her, she's been sitting about a month now. I figure $300 minimum for tires, and another $140 or so for a chain, thus, why she's sitting. Kims bike has a new front tire, rear is okay, but backfiriing bad out of the left pipe...carbs need to come off....and the '72 Bonny is running Great, but my butt can't take that many miles on that seat....Would if I could!

I'd feel a whole lot better if the part I replaced actually had something to do with the spark...

Okay then we need to figure out where we can go on the old bikes that's closer and less stress on the old bum. Meanwhile, how about we think over moving this ride to the Labor Day weekend? I've got that Saturday open to suggestions :-)

Im in!!! Maybe I can get Kimmy's bike from making all the "gangstas" from ducking an covering everytime I decelerate. I just added the 3rd bottle of Lucas to the tank, but don't seem to be helping, just getting worse. Kimmy needs a ride, she needs to get away, so count us in as of now, Labor day time frame. I'll try to get John (Big Poppy) away too. He usually brings his son Brett along, but I'll see if I can sneak it to him without Brett knowing. Still trying to get the mufflers to stay on the T120..Mufflers are too big (2") where the pipe is 1 1/2"...what a nightmare. You have any mufflers that will fit a 1.5 inch pipe oldroadie?

Alright, then, we're moving over to Dahlonega away from Monteagle. Need a new leader because I've only been a follower over there...I'm in for a day ride.

Yota, you want to plan a fun day ride trip and set up a meet point?

what days will y'all be available to ride? I'm familiar with a few roads in that area. no trip would be complete without thundering down 180 & wash rider rd.

Kimmy says she's about "Dahlonega'd" out, and I kind of agree, we go up there ALOT. Im gonna be doing the Barber motorsports park "Vintage Festival" in September over in Birmingham, Alabama with some other friends. Not totally out of the question though...all bikes up now, bought a new Metzler for the rear on my America yesterday for $188, mounted and balanced...Is that a good deal? I had to take the wheel to him.
Let me know a date, and I might consider another Dahlonega trip...My days off are Saturday and Sunday.

Weekend's coming soon and Saturday is the target day. Yota, you got something for us or do we revert to the original ride plan?

Gentlemen, just to be clear on this. Are we discussing the weekend of August the 27th or Sept 3rd, Labor Day weekend?
I was in favor of the original Monteagle ride but I'm flexable.

I'm only free to ride the 3rd as I'll be in Chicago the 27th. Maybe we should revert to Ed and Mike meet 9 am Sat the 3rd at the Mapco at I-75 exit 125 and see who else joins in :-)

Ed, looking forward to seeing you Saturday around 9:00am.
Anyone else coming along, should be a beautiful day ride.
That's exit 25 off I-75.
