It’s 7:45am and I was driving through the town I live in. It’s a 25 mph zone and I was doing 25 with a car behind me, a motorcycle behind him, and another car behind the motorcycle. The speed limit goes from 25 to 45 and I began to accelerate…and heard the bike downshift…the bike (sport bike) passed me, over the double yellow, at over 70 mph (guessing). I called the cops and reported the location to the dispatcher. He alerted me that they were deploying a vehicle immediately, as the motorcyclist was approaching an intersection that’s less than a block from the police station. The motorcyclist then crossed the double yellow again, on a blind curve, and passed several more vehicles! I lost sight of the bike but still believed him to be in front of me, approaching the light near the police station. I could see the light was red and a line of cars were waiting to move into the intersection. At that time a police car arrived at the intersection, from the right. I still couldn’t see the motorcyclist but our light turned green and the police officer moved into my lane, turned on his lights, and was followed by a second police car! The dispatcher, in a very excited state, tells me that the officers are behind the motorcyclist and that “they got him!” I hung up, expecting the officer to call me later for the official report. Then, I see the two officers move into the left turn lane and accelerate hard…the bike is running! The cars are on a tear after him with lights and sirens blaring…then, gone.

I received a call from the officer two hours later…they lost the bike. The bike didn’t have plates on it either so there’s nothing they can do to trace it. Crazy commute!

I thought you were going to say that the cops didn't see the other bike so they pulled you over by mistake

Had a buddy tell me he waws asking a DFW cop about the guys on sport bikes / cruisers who are hauling butt, he said 2 diff cops said the "UN-official " stance is to let em run, "we'll scrape them up in a few hours",

I have had a few of them just give me a quick flash of the bubble gums (is that still a term nowdays?)to remind me,,,"Isee you". usually thats enough to slow me down when I forget to look at the speedo.

UPDATE: I spoke with a local officer last night about the insanity I witnessed. He chuckled and said, "Well, he's in jail now." "WHAT? YOU CAUGHT HIM?" was my response.

Apparently the guy was caught in the neighboring town by their officers. When he was apprehended they found that he was driving without insurance, the bike was unregistered, it didn't have a plate and...he had a suspended license.

I swear, I don't understand people. If he would have obeyed the traffic laws I doubt he would have been picked up on anyone's radar.

Oh well, the mind of a moron...I guess I'll never understand.

The guys an idiot of course, but I'll never understand the need to call the police on people for traffic violations.

WARNING: AHEAD!

To anybody that thinks you shouldn't call in traffic violations like passing in a no passing zone, traveling over double the speed limit, and passing several vehicles on a blind curve (again in a no passing zone) I have to say: What if someone was coming around the bend at that particular instance and swerved to miss the rider who was JUST breaking a traffic law? That person, the motorcyclist, or another vehicle may cause an accident, as they attempt to avoid the guy who’s JUST breaking a traffic law.

I feel it’s our moral obligation to keep idiots off the road. Oh, and if you’ve never seen the outcome of idiots causing accidents…in real life…it ain’t perty. That’s why I call this stuff in!

I think the safety issue is only your justification. I think its more about inflicting authority over people that rub you the wrong way. A single call to the police, alright fine. But youre calling them back for updates on the case...high fives all around..."Honey, I caught the bad guy, I'm a hero"!

you can say "what if" for anything...

What if the guy was rushing to the hospital?

What if someone died or crashed because the cops where called?

Thanks for the two cents Tom!

Allow me to shed light on the road I live on and where this rider was breaking the law. Since 2006 there have been three deaths and numerous other accidents in a two mile stretch in front of my home. Myself and the other residents are sensitive to speeders and aggressive drivers as all of the accidents were caused by speed/aggression. So, through those accident statistics, we were able to get the speed limit lowered to 25 in the residential area. That has allowed me to become pretty close with the Chief of Police and the officers that patrol the area.

I guess my moral obligation to get bad drivers off the road stems from those deaths and my family's safety. But you're right, it was just a traffic violation.

"High five," I just dissed Tom!

P.S. How long have you had a problem with authority and have you ever sought help?

Ooo, I did it again, "high five!"

Man, I feel like a "hero!" (puffing out my chest)

See I hit the nail on the head. You ARE that guy..haha It doesnt surprise me that youre best friends with the Chief. You sound like that guy that shows up to local accidents with a police scanner to point at the bad guy. "take em away boys"!..."can I blow the siren"?!...haha

Two or Three more arrests and they'll give you a fake badge and whistle...haha

In all honesty I dont blame you for trying to keep the town "clean", I just wish you'd tell it like it is instead of putting the "moral obligation" safety spin on it. Youre taking advantage of your secondhand authority first, the safety part is just your defense.

Sorry, but I'll have to put my 2 cents in here...

Yeah Matt! What exactly are you thinkin' here?!

I mean, that speeder otherwise sounds like a responsible citizen!

Oh...wait a minute. You say once they caught him, they found that that "responsible citizen" didn't have a drivers license('cause it had been suspended), didn't have insurance, nor even a registration for his motorcycle???

Oh, well, "what if" he DID have all those things a "responsible citizen" should have in his possession in order to have the PRIVILEGE(and not the "right") to operate a motorized vehicle on public roads? Wouldn't you have felt bad THEN, Matt???

(...in other words Tom...sorry...but as it turned out, IN THIS CASE, I'm gonna side with Matt here)

What if we went back to the good ole days when no one had a cell phone and there where no safety/red light cameras? I just don't know how we ever survived those mad max days of yore...

Speaking of riding like a squid, it is real nice to have two bikes (and several riding jackets too). So as to trade off every once in a while and keep the minions guessing

Dwight the guy had a suspended license and was booking through the local speed trap over double lines numerous times, theres no common sense there at all and he's clearly in the wrong. Rats arent much better though...haha

All I'm saying is lets call an idiot an idiot and a pig a pig.

Okay! Good point.

Though while we're at it, what say we call a "fatal accident" caused by an irresponsible citizen[read: an idiot like the one Matt took the time to maybe help get off the streets for a while] what THAT is TOO?!

(..."Manslaughter")

The only way this guys demise would upset me, is that his death would be added to the statistics used to legislate the rest of us off the road
