An 18 year old rear ended my Triumph on Sat. The tail light is smashed to bits and the rear fender has buckled. The bike was pushed about one and half feet. Thankfully the kickstand held! She left a note with her phone number and apologized. Yes, we both have insurance. Could only imagine what damage would have happened if the kickstand had folded.

At least the note had real info on it instead of saying "I'm writing this note so it looks to others like I am leaving you my info" Seems most people these days would have just driven off.

Obviously a bummer your bike got hit but great to hear the driver left a real note!

Crap, so sorry. Why can't people look before they back out. It's not that hard to do. At least she left her info, it's a nice change from most people.
Someone in an accident here actually got out of his car after he caused it and stood on the corner acting like he was the witness, only took the cops a few minutes to figure that one out...it takes all kinds.

Lucky you, I had my Speedie rear shunted in a carpark and like yours shoved about 18" with similar damage but the **** just drove off Reported to the police and I'm waiting As you say it would have been a lot worse if the sidestand (kickstand) had folded.

I commend her for being honest and taking responsibility. After talking to her, I came to the conculusion that she was a nice kid.
Oh how I dread the day my daughters start to drive.

Sorry to hear about your bike Mate. At least no one got hurt though and she was honest and prepared to make amends. When my bike got rear ended it gave me an excuse to customize. Gotta look at the bright side in things.

18? So how is restitution to be extracted? Seriously, I would want to send her a bouquet of flowers in recognition of her honor. Not too many honorable folks around these days. Hope your motorsickle gets repaired real soon. Might want to check the sidestand bolt too. Just say'in.

Holy cow! Out of curiousity, I called to check the price of a back fender-$518.00. The price includes paint. Good thing she was insured.

I'm curious. Obviously, you filed a police report. We all do for all kinds of things. Insurance demands it. Has anyone every had the police actually follow up on a report? I never have. Over the years I've had a half dozen car break-ins, rental property burglarized, various thing stolen from outside houses and a hit a run (which a witness wrote down the out-of-state license plate). Never had a response to any of them. They even gave me a song and dance as to why they couldn't give me the identity of the out-of-state driver. Fortunately, my insurance company was more diligent and hunted down the driver and got a statement from the witness. I was reading some crime statistics the other day and I was a little shocked to learn that 30% of bank robberies go unsolved.

Get the highest estimate, get the check, order a new fender and tail light assy, install yourself, and pocket the rest! That's what I did, came out $500 profit!

Well, you can't look 'cause it takes one hand to steer, one hand to shift and if you turn your head you'll drop your toy phone.

Kinda off topic, I saw a truck back into a parked truck in Az. a couple of weeks ago. The driver left, so I got as much info off truck as I could couldnt find driver of truck that got hit so I called H.P. they couldnt take any info from me untill a report was filed from driver of damaged truck

... and most of them were probably not very well planned (if at all). What if someone really clever ... ? Oh darn, did I say that out loud? Seems I'm not THAT clever after all.

Seriously. Here you have a crime that has been recorded on video and has God only knows how many other security devices and the FBI is called in immediately and 30% go unsolved! Of course, I got to watch the FBI dog and pony show up close during the 'hunt' for Eric Rudolph in western North Carolina. They were on the news nightly claiming they couldn't find him because he was receiving help from locals, whom, they assumed, were all a bunch of yahoos. That story turned out to be totally fabricated by the Bureau and as soon as the FBI gave up and cleared out a local deputy caught him dumpster diving. Maybe it was the FBI that was helping him hide.
