Hey all!

Well, I was out just admiring my bike in the garage and noticed something out of place. There is an electrical connector that is disconnected where the bulk of the wiring harness is. I saw the end dangling right in between the valve cover and the rear-top engine mount bracket.

The female connector has a Green/Purple wire and a Black wire and the male connector appears to have a Purple wire and a Black wire. I don't have the shop manual yet so I don't have any schematics to poke a look at.

Is this the throttle position sensor disconnect I hear people doing? I didn't plug it back in 'cause she is running fine now but I'm just curious.

"Purple wire and a Black wire" It's for the accessory socket, if you don't have one it won't be plugged in.

That connector is found between and slightly behind the carbs.

Pictures per request... It was kind of hard to get any of it in a good shot...

The accessory port thing makes sense... I don't have anything in either the left or right accessory blanks.

Purple and Black connector should be in a "T" shaped connector. That is definitely your acc port.
The Green/Purp and black is a mystery to me. If I had to guess based on the shape and location Id say t has something to do with EFI. Maybe a fuel pump connection???

According to my service manual (pre-EFI) the green/purple line goes to the brake section of the tail light. Maybe you should have a look and see if the front brake is triggering the rear brake light.

That connector is not like any I have seen on our bikes yet. Looks new and modern.

Well now, I'm confused. The pictures show a gray?/black and a green/yellow wire. That doesn't fit your description at all.

Green/yellow is TPS. If the other is pink/black then that is also TPS.

I keep coming back to this and Im now thinking its got to be the Carb Vent Valve connector. If you check this scan of the
Wiring diagram the only two pin that has a green/?? and black wire in the vicinity of the carbs is that Carb Vent Valve switch connector. (look at the top right quarter of the diagram)

Wow... Now I'm pretty confused!! Ya got me second guessing myself on the colors. The male connector definitely looked dark purple and black.

After looking at the pics I posted it does look like a green/yellow but this morning I could have sworn it was a green/purple wire.

Its driving me nuts now because I'm stuck in parking lot traffic after a 4th of July fireworks show. I just wanna get back so I can take a look now!!!

Writing to you from my phone...QS.

Well Zmilin... I think you've got to be right by way of deduction. That does appear to be the only green/anything & black combo on a two post connector. I also double checked the colors... it definitely looks green/purple...

Is it worth tracking down the other half? Where abouts would I find that guy?

Also... in all this picture taking I noticed that the thing in between the carbs has a rubber boot and mine's cracked a bit... What is that thing and is the small crack in the boot detrimental?

I'm not entirely sure... I think it's always been a Florida bike but I could be wrong. Is there any way to tell via VIN or marking on the manufacturer plate/sticker?

I see where you're going with this though and it makes sense....

I'm pretty sure there are CA Emissions bikes on this board that were sold in other states. I also think that lead might go to the canister on those systems.

Karens bike was bought same day, same dealer here in Wa and hers had Ca evap crap, mine did not.
I also think its Ca Evap... just odd that that plug made it that high up into the harness. Usually there are two plugs (more square in shape) that go to the valves and a third canister plug thats low and back on the engine (cant remember what that one looks like). Id check her bike for you but Im having issues bending my knee after my little biff in the driveway a few days ago.

There are no electrical connections to the canister. I don't recall any in the rest of the system from when I removed mine but I have slept since then and there are other components. I think they may have all been vacuum.

I'll look later.
