Anyone used this backrest from Fast Eddie? http://www.fasteddysports.com/?page_id=3&product_id=413I did about 290 miles yesterday and it opened my eyes to how badly i need a backrest and a seat mod. I am on a bit of a budget so i want as much comfort for as little as possible. Looks aren't paramount right now. Comfort is. Thanks guys.

I have not used it but it looks comfy.
Have you considered that it may be other factors contributing to your back pain. 290 miles is a fair whack anyway but maybe different handlebars or footboards could be benificial. You would be suprised how much of a difference these things make.

My plan of attack is Backrest, Seat Mod, Handlebar Risers.
I am 6'4" so the reach for the stock bars isn't terrible. I want to change one piece at a time until i find what is comfortable.
I am getting ROCKING head buffeting from the stock roadster screen (It was free as part of a marketing deal from triumph) but I can handle that if I can get the back pain under control. The pain is mostly in lower back and between shoulder blades.

You sound like you are on the right track. I would go handlebars/risers first but those three things will fix it.
Welcome to the site by the way. Don't forget to post some pics in members rides when you get a chance.

I have that backrest from Fast Eddy and I think it is brilliant. Good support and very comfy. Easy to fit. Stacka also has one and he suffers from a bad back and he swears by it. Do a search for backrest with his name to get his review.

I use that backrest and I think it's great. I made one myself but I was too heavy for it (250 lbs), and it broke. This backrest did sit up too high for my liking (more mid back than low back), but I fixed that easy enough with my band saw. Just pulls right off if you want to pack a passenger too.

Welcome to the forum. 1 thing you will learn is that if Fast Eddy sells it, you can bet it works.
If you have a buffeting problem with that shield address that very quickly. Buffeting will cause all kinds of back issues because you are tense all the time fighting the wind.

Hi, I've used the protac backrest this summer and it's been best purchase sofar. Probably the nbr 1 thing considering ergonomics in long rides. With windscreens I think it isn't so easy to protect, cause the wind will come under the screen as well and needs some extra efforts to cope. Last but not least I'll adjust the handlebar next winter to keep upper body in good relaxed posture.

Bar risers will address the pain between the shoulders, take that to the bank. Ditch the roadster screen, get a fly screen and a full coverage helmet. No buffeting here. I and several other members have the backrest you ask about, money well spent. It takes some tweaking to get it properly adjusted. I rarely leave home without it. Welcome aboard

Another option on the backrest might be this one on ebay. I've been considering it but hadn't decided yet - has anyone tried it ? In the windshield buffering, these memphis shades lowers pretty much eliminate it - there are several threads around about it.

I have a full face helm. It is nice, but I am so tall the roadster screen ends below my chin and the air just smacks me in the face. Not sure if I want lowers, or a fly/dart screen. Does anyone else use a small angled screen on the slab? The buffeting doesn't start untill about 70 mph. It goes from totally smooth to holy crap in about 5 mph.

Also, I emailed eddy at 930 last night about the backrest and he replied at 1130. Doesn't he sleep?

That's why they call him Fast Eddy . Have you tried running with the screen off, might be to your liking?

I rode without the screen and it was death grip on the bars. The screen took the wind pressure off my torso and is an improvement, just not perfect yet. I might consider the dart fly screen.
I might also try no screen when I get the backrest and don't have to hold on for dear life.
This process of making the bike fit me feels like disarming a bomb. Wind screen, risers, backrest? BLUE WIRE!!!

part of the fun of getting a bike is makeing it yours. and i also wanted to say that buying that backrest was one of the best investments i have made. i thought i would use it only for longer rides and trips but i prettymuch leave it on the bike all the time. first bike i have ever had with one and now i wonder why

Got it - Use it - Love it! Had shorten a bit, but works great and you can actually relax some one the freeway. I also added Bars from an HD-FLH to bring grips closer and it stopped the leaning forward and stiff arming. Hope that helps!
I'm speeding because I have to get there before I forget where I was going.

Welcome to the forum. You'll learn a lot here it's a great place.
The pro-tac backrest from Eddy is wonderful. I'm only 5'4" and had to cut a lot off of the bars, but it's so comfortable. Super easy to put on and comes on and off in a second.

Does anyone use Fast Eddy's backrest with 812 shocks (without the top cap on the shock)?

I want to put a backrest on my 2011 America, but I have concerns about how hard it will be to get on and off the bike. I've seen some backrests that fold down while you swing your leg over the bike and can then be flipped up into place, but the Protac doesn't look like it does this. Can anybody who owns one tell me how that works? Alternatively, are there any other backrests that work with the stock seat and flip out of the way?

The only ones I've seen are aftermarket seats, like Mustang and Russel Day Long seats. Corbin doesn't even do that.

This backrest doesn't fold down. It fits into brackets on either side of the seat/fender brace. The 2 rods simply slide in or out. Pull up and it's off, put the rods into the brackets, slide in and you're ready to go.

No really... I'll show you next week but it DOES fold as an independent function from adjustment.

I have a Utopia backrest and it does fold down. Expensive but very well-made. Totally transforms the comfort levels on longer trips. http://www.utpr.com/triumphamerica.html

Thaks for the help.
With the Protac in place then, how awkward is it to get on and off the bike? I'm not as flexible as I used to be, and I can see myself landing on my a$$ trying to step back from the bike and drag my right leg across the seat as I dismount.
The Utopia backrest sounds interesting, but the seat on the 2011 is a single, solid piece, so I'd have to cut out the opening for the bracket. Even assuming I'm competent enough not to mess that up, is it easy to raise the backrest into place once you're on the bike and lower it before you get off so you can just swing you leg over the seat like usual?

Dead easy, it just folds down forwards. Talk to Utopia about the one-piece seat, they are very helpful.

If I didn't have the Corbin I'd do that. My Corbin purchase was much more about the backrest than the seat.

So I got my backrest put on today and went for a ride. It is very nice and comfortable, but it pushes me way up on the tank. After some adjustment it should be fine.
All in all, a worthwhile purchase.

Well I got my back rest last week and it took me minuets install and after that it takes seconds to remove. I when out for a ride on Saturday and I did not get any back pain what so ever. If any one what to have a look at it I am now living in Wittering nr Peterbourgh. It was well worth the money even though had to pay and extra £24 to parcel force.

I purchased the backrest that you've shown on e-bay and really like it because you can adjust the fore/aft position and all you need is a vise to bend it a bit if you want to change the angle. It can be removed with a simple set-screw (leaves the bracket behind though). I like a lot of lumbar support so it worked for me.
