Currently doing the valve clearance and adjustment on my 08 America-24,000k. All clearances were in excess of max with range going from .01 to .08 mm. With this sytem I would think that the clearance would actually decrease due to the minimal wear on the shim and cam lobe. Valve in bedding into seat would allow valve stem to get closer thus decreasing the clearance. Must have been a friday arvo or a bad monday morning when they done the initial set up. Could have been worse I guess if set too tight. Anyone else found them all over the max?

Hells Bells! I thought that was next year! We are not known for rushing about here on "Gods little waiting room". Greatly increases the chance of a myocardial infarction. Two residents had to be taken away by ambulance from the over seventies electric scooter drags last weekend-too much excitement and they were only spectators! Was sponsored by the Milo people-evidently Bribie has their biggest customer base in Australia. Now where did I leave that torque wrench!!

It has been my experience that the clearances do become tighter with wear/mileage. Don't forget to check for wear at the cam "saddle" ("bearing")area of the head as well because it can make setting clearances a frustrating experience when this area wears significantly!

When I did mine a couple of years ago, 7 were out of adjustment and all were loose. You would think that they would tighten up for all the reasons stated but......

All I can atribute it too is lobe and cam bearing wear. I hope most of the wear has taken place as the cam polished up the aluminum bearing surfaces in the head.

Hey Bill,
We have only one set of traffic lights that they use to start the electric scooter races! Main entertainment is bingo-pokies and bowls although we do get all the top bands at the RSL club. When Chanelle and I first arrived here were sitting in the bar of the bowls club when a ambo went past with all sirens going. The elderly lady next to us turned to her husband and said Hell! we have all shuffled up a turn! One positive is that we have very little crime-only just got police stationed here overnight 3 years ago. For a population of 23,000 that is very unusual! On the negative you have to be very carefull of little old ladies trying to peer over the windscreen of a large SUV or Mercedes who have no idea of what the actual road rules are!
Still a very nice place to live and great to get home to after a fews days in Sydney or Melbourne. Got to rush as can hear the tea trolley coming!!!!
