I'm looking for more low end so was wondering if going bigger on the sprocket would be the easiest way to achieve this.I do very little highway riding so top speed is not such a big concern.Dont care if i can do 120. I would reather do 80 but get there really quick.
Thanks for the advice.

smaller is the way to go on front sprockets if your looking for acceleration. Speedmasters come stock with a 16 tooth front sprocket.

Sprockets have no bearing on the tach. It just measures/displays engine revolutions.

I thought the Speedmaster came with a 17 tooth front sprocket. I haven't every heard of a sprocket for our bikes smaller than 16 tooth. I guess you'd have to see if you could go bigger on the back sprocket.

Early SM came with the 16, like my 04 came with the 16 tooth front sprocket. The later bikes came with a 17 I think.

16 front on early Speedmaster, they went to 17 later.
You can get a 16 front from Newspeedmaster.
Stock rear is a 42 tooth, I got a 44t from Bike Bandit. They showed 46 also available.
JT Sprockets makes the rears. Part # 37317 is the 44 tooth.

According to JT's site the number is now 1332 and it's available up to a 47 tooth.

Early ones did come with 16, then 17, and later ones 18. I'd confirm which front sprocket is on your bike and go to ONE less tooth. I've tried them all and each tooth makes a noticeable difference. Going to one less tooth will probably give you the oomph you're looking for starting off. The 16 will give you the quickest start off the line, but you may find yourself wishing you had a 6th gear on the top end.

Thanks much for all the information.Know would there be a benefit to changing the rear versus the front? It would appear to me that the front would be much easier to do.
Thanks

The front is a lot easier to change...

The front one is way easier to do and each tooth makes enough noticeable difference. If you just have to get in between you'd need to change the rear, but definitely not necessary. Also, front sprockets are a lot cheaper.
