I want to install an oil temp gauge on the Bonnie. I'm aware of the fill plug replacement gauge...any other mod kit suggestions?
I like VDO.
Thanks, Rich

$80.00???
I have been staring at these since they became available but think they are about 3x too much for an itty bitty oil guage IMHO.
If anyone can figure out other options (HD Oil Gauges) that would also fit that would be great.

A bit pricey for sure, but at the time I had this bad feeling my bike was running hot, and it was! I even calibrated my gague with Pat's and they were the same... So I guess I considered it cheap insurance.

Well, I quit staring and just decided the buy the one from Brent. i found various ones (for different bikes) for $20 - 160+. I like the looks of it if nothing else.

It's worth at least $80. Well made, works great, good conversation piece. Removable without tools so you don't have those burrs in factory plug.

First run w/Oil Temp gauge yielded 150F on a 60 mile all interstate ride. 48F and extreme wind.
Seems temp is low but assume it's the colder weather??

yep, just really cold air. A good judge is about 70ºF, a few more days away eh?

My gauge arrived today. Looks pretty good!! I'll see if I get time to fit it later ! Should take all of 1 minute!! Did I read earlier that they can be twisted once fitted if the dial isn't 'square' to be viewed??

Yes, the top of mine will spin a bit to square it up.

I've had one of a while and the temp will very from 150F to 240F depending on the tempature and driving. When I was in Daytona and stuck in traffic she got all the way to 240F. However, under normal driving at 70 to 80 degrees she'll stay right at 190.

Well the jury is still out in my head on that one. I was running the "performance" oil cooler, and it ran hot. Even tried new hoses. I switched back to stock at PAt's and it's a bit cooler, but still hotter than the average. I'm wondering if it's going to be the elusive piece of shop rag in the oil passages somewhere. One of these years I wanna do a big bore, I guess I'll flush it all out then. Until, then I am not sure how I could flush the oil passages out, ya know? That's the only thing I can think of, maybe it's just not circulating well.

Hey Benny, The Oil Cooler is just a small Radiator! So the internal lines are very thin. If you are real careful and you have a compressor you can regulate down. Take an air nozzle and slowly increase the pressure to no more than 10 psi. I would actually start with 5 psi. And of course don't look at the other end when you start sending air through the cooler! That piece of shop rag might come out to see you! Just a thought that this would work for you. Steve_Sixmil

Thanks. I don't have one, but a friend does. I don't think it's the cooler itself... since I've changed that back to stock. I think it's within the motor somewhere, if anything.

Benny, Didn't Pat find something in his engine when he did his big bore? I think it was a plastic disc or something like that.

I wish I had done a temp gauge before I ever touched my bike. That way I would have a reference point after each thing to see what, if anything pushed the temps up.
Its a little late now lol, I am not going back to stock. I am going to synthetic next change.
