Remove the fuel line at the petcock; remove the console & disconnect the wiring at the connector; remove the tank mounting bolt at the rear of the tank, lift up the rear and slide tank back a bit to clear the rubber mounts on either side of the tank at the front of the frame; lift up front of tank & disconnect the vent tube at the underside of the tank on the starboard side front.

When you put it all back together, make sure the vent tube is not crimped against anything. Otherwise you will have a fine ride until it seems you are out of gas. The ride won't be that long.

to quote from Pat's Carb Site: "The gas tank removel involved removing the gas hose from the petcock (put a rag under the hose, it will drip some gas). Then removing the (3) 6mm allens holding the plastic warning light panel. You have to unplug the electrical connection underneath the warning light panel by carefully pulling the connector apart while you push on the plastic lock tab on the connector.
You then remove the 12mm bolt on the rear of the tank which secures it to the frame.
You then lift the rear of the tank, pull gently backwards and reach underneath the front of the tank and pull off the small rubber breather hose from the underside/front/right side. Be sure to notice where this feeds so you can reinstall it without pinching this hose off. Set the tank carefully somewhere it is safe and away from any heat source. "

I know I'm only repeating what's been said but these were the directions I used while rejetting my carbs and they were perfect.

The weight of fuel can surprise you if the tank is near full, have your landing spot pre-planned and clear.

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort. Herm Albright (1876 - 1944)
