I have a 2009 America, and these are the same as the stock length - while they are marketed for HD's, is there anything in the design of these shocks that would keep them from working on an America? Thanks!

Should be fine as long as you have the right bolt bushings, I have a set of shorty 412 s on the shelf for a Hardley, I sent them off to Progressive for a cautionary rehab, $35, that's when I found out. They sent 'em back with the right bushings as well. Also Progr. verbally assured me they would work fine on our Triumphs. BTW, I see 412 s on sale at that price quite often. I picked up a set of new chrome 12" baloney cuts last month on FleaBay, $210.00 plus ship.

I just took a better read of those shocks your considering, you may be able to run those on the softest setting, you would be hard pressed to fatigue those springs, You gotta like a little more than you need as opposed to just enough.

I had the same inquiry an called or emailed Progressive. The response was something about spring rate. The Harley is a heavier bike so the springs are stiffer. The person said it would be like riding a hardtail.

So, I wonder if the Progressive 412 HD shocks for a Harley Sportster would be OK, since the weights of that bike and the America are pretty close?

I bought a new set of 412-4019C off fleabay for $125.00
Only had to swap the bushings. They were intended for a Harley FLT/FLH (MUCH heavier than our bikes!)and the springs are a little on the soft side for me (@200 pounds) on the lowest setting. I run them on the 2nd notch and they are great. 100 times better than stock!

Thanks billpvegas - I did see that on the JC site (the ebay site that I am looking at is JC as well). However, mine is an 09 (they for some reason only show this fitting to 07) and I wanted black (the one on the JC site is chrome).

Interestingly, I contacted Progressive, and all they would tell me is that "Unfortunately we do not offer a shock as a direct fitment for your bike." I know that, since I checked Progressive's fit guide; I was hoping that they would confirm that the black Sportster shocks in the 12.5" size would be a good approximation. But I guess they don't want the liability.

I talked with Bryce at Progressive. He's a great guy and provided me with some good info on their shocks and the reason why there is no direct fitment as of yet for an 09 America. As I now understand it, it's more than just eye length and weight that differentiates one shock from another. He did advise that this question has come up more than once, and has put a bug in the ear of their engineers to see if a specific shock can be made for our bikes.
