Have a 2003 Speedie and I was thinking of some after market shocks like the progressive 412s.
Any input on these or others? I don't really need them, but am looking for something to improve the ride comfort and if I can lower the ride a bit, that would be nice too.

I have a 2006 speedy and I installed 812 flame series a while back as well as progressive fork springs. I lowered the rear by 1" and kept the front at the standard height. I would have to say doing this was one of the best modifications to do. It greatly improved handling and I love the stance of the bike. The ride height is better and improved even more with a low profile seat although that reduces comfort.

I've just swapped out my 412s for Hagon 2810s and I feel like it's a major improvement. In any case, both of these shock choices really improve the bike over the stock units and you can really feel the difference when you lean into a tight turn. I just felt like the 412s had too much 'sport' tuning to them and delivered hard response when hitting smaller bumps making the ride on my Corbin seat tiring on a longer ride. The softer stock seat might not translate those to your tush as harshly. You have to be pretty careful with the Hagon vendor and insurer the springs are matched to you and your load weight but they are very smooth. Both brands can be ordered shorter if you wish to lower the bike but beware of dragging longer pipes in tight turns...
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort. Herm Albright (1876 - 1944)

thanks for the input guys, I appreciate it. I might look for a used pair to save spending too much if they don't work out. I do mostly around town, but am planning a long ride or two. Worst case, I could swap out for the long rides...

Once you experience a decent set of rear shocks - & practically anything is better than the stock shocks - you prolly won't want to reinstall the OEM units.

I just ordered some progressive 440s. I hope they're worth the price.

John, I tested all three of Progressive line up in road test comparisons and currently testing HAgon on anotehr bike and these guys are correct. I can tell you with absolute confidence you will not be wasting your money, especially with replacing the Stock shocks. There is such a vast improvement with even Progressives entry level you will be amazed. Not a question of if they are better, they really are. I put my money where my mouth was and tested all three of the Progressive line (the 418 is no longer available was their mid range shock)I bank my reputation on it, no maybe it will be far superior in every way. I agree with Oldroadie on the Hagon 2810's at least in my current test for the Thunderbird, they are exceptional and have rebound dampening, which makes a great deal of difference as well. eddy

I've got the flame cut Progressive 812's. Love them. And they look cool.

It is a must, you have to upgrade the shocks and fork springs. You will not be dissapointed. I got mine through Fasteddy. They make your bike safer too. Oh and I feel a bit awkward chatting up your wife but thanks for the offer anyway.

I could chat her up, maybe buy her a few drinks, but that usually gets me in trouble, so no thanks.
I got the 440's after talking with Eddy and I'm very pleased with them. You can tell your wife that my gal said it was the best upgrade I've made and her spine and still-intact fillings appreciate it.
