 heel toe shifter issues

I bought a used 02' america. It has floor boards and a heel toe shifter. I've tried everything to get the toe lever high enough to slip my boot/shoe under. I haven't much room on the floor boards for my foot to fit without hitting the rear lever or toe lever. had the bike out once and didn't like the shifting with heel to toe. my foot felt out of place. I only had drove it in my neighborhood, not too much traffic.
It can't be done. At it's highest point before the shift rod falls out of the connector, the heel lever bottoms out on a rod. (rear lever has a slot in it and it stops on a bar. even if I get the toe lever that high and wedge my shoe under, you cannot up shift because the rear lever is too low at the rear and bottoms out.
I spoke to a triumph service manager and he agreed that it's very tricky for people with size 11's and shoes with a high toe area. I asked him about the stock shifter pedal and he said he was certain that the stock pedal will not work with floor boards. All items are triumph parts.
anyone have experience with this type of problem. stock shifter doesn't work with floor boards?? appreciate any ideas on this one, Thanks guys.

try adjusting the piece on the shift rod that goes into the clutch cover, take the bolt out and move it a few notches

Now why would the guy say that!!! I have Triumph boards with the stock shifter and it's just fine. Service manager indeed... he should be fired.

If this is for a mater of long feet, heel in towards back and toes angeled slightly out. try using the shifter as it is intended. you will love it after a week or so of getting used to it. Ok? Maybe I dont get your problem, if you have a heel toe shifter why do you want your toe under it? Your HEEL does the UP shift by pressing down on it, and your TOE does the DOWN shift. Its a little weird to get used to but once you get it, its great. Most people have the stock heel toe shifter modded to get it closer to the board so you are not pulling your foot up so high. My old Kawaski Police bike had the greatest system. Very close to the board, neutral between each gear (cop models only) and I could click the crap out of that tranny. I have floor bds and the stock shifter on my TA. It can be adjusted by the control rod at each end.

Hmmm, don't know bout that one. but really if you have not given it time for getting used to,,, but if it is a problem I can send you a pic of my stock shifter with bds on so you can take it to your dealer and show them how it REALLY DOES WORK. I still can't believe a service mgr. said what he said. Ask him if he even rides? and does HE really know about the bikes he claims to service and repair.

That particular one appears to be installed backwards...and upside down.

the shift lever has a slot that limits the up shift and down shift. moving the trans lever a few teeth on the splines looks like it will not buy me anything in movement. I may be able to elongate the slot to allow more movement. I'm just not sure right now.
thanks frank

Neither of mine are like that ('05,'06), in fact there are small witness (punch) marks to show original as assembled position, I can move and reattach them 360 degrees. Are there two variations of the lever? Also my '06 has floorboards, but I noticed the original owner discreetly cut the back half of the heel/toe shifter off, works great.

Larryshep posted a mod years ago about cutting down the ends of the heel-toe shifter to give more room on the pegs or boards for your left foot. I never went through with it. Though I have no boards, I have 73k now and love that heel-toe shifter, never trying to stick a toe under it, either. It takes some practice and a little finesse, but I think anybody would really, really like it if they gave it a chance.

Size 14 here, I unbolted the rear "peg" on mine, just hit my heel down on the arm. Gives me plenty of room to move my foot around, and it shifts just fine, dont miss it at all until I look at it. Took a couple miles to get used to at first after switching from stock, but I love it now, won't be going back. Good luck!

thanks for all the replys and suggestions. here is what I determined and a possible solution for my problem.
the stock shifter is higher allowing your boot to fit beneath the shifter. the heel toe shifter is definitely not as flexible. there is very little room for toe adjustment.
I checked with Triumph Parts, I thought about going back to the stock shifter, however, at $259 plus for all parts needed, I think I'll figure out something with the existing heel toe shifter!
can't lower floorboard, might be too dangerous on turns. thought about extending floorboard outward an inch, but may have the same issues with turning.
the best solution perhaps is to come up with a small plate the I can raise up the toe shifter an inch. use the existing threaded hole for the shifter to affix the plate, and then mount the shifter in the new threaded hole in the plate. the plate could be made to look like an extension of the end of the toe shifter plate about an inch to an inch and a quarter long in an oveal shape about .5 inches wide to mimic the contour end of the shifter so it's not too obvious.
for now I'll ride and try to get use to what I have. I'll have to place my foot on an angle between the two shifters.
Thanks again for your input and observations! I'll always welcome any criticism and ideas.

As Scott (beamer) pointed out, you don't need to get your toe under the shifter... just use the heel for up shifting. But if you are truly bent on getting your toe under that thing, can you not cut off the heel section, then adjust the toe higher?

You could chop off the back half of the heel/toe shifter, then raise it up, I have an '06 Spdy with this set up. Works fine.
