Hey guys. I'm new here, just bought my first Triumph a couple days ago, but I'll be pretty active here. I'm curious about your opinions of helmets. I'm going to be commuting on my bike, and I've always been a believer in the full face helmet. This opinion was further supported when I hit the pavement at about 35 mph a few years back. Anyhow, I'm really interested in buying a shorty for some of the time, but I'm not sure how to schedule that.
I just got back into motorcycling after years away, but I've been a rider since childhood. I raced minicross and did my own mechanic work at 14, so getting back on the horse after the accident isn't even an issue. In fact I'm surprised I didn't do it sooner, thought I'm only 31.
Anyway, nice to meet you all.

http://www.bonnevilleamerica.com/forums/...0153#Post512871There are some options here. I wear a shorty made by Vega. I like it the best of the shorty style because it stays put on the highway and dosn't try to strangle me the way some other short helmets do. It depends on the shape of your head,go to the store and try a few on. You want a short helmet to sit low on your head and be a snug fit.

I rode with a shorty helmet with a windscreen. When I got a removable screen, I loved riding the summer months without it, but the wind noise of the shorty helmet drove me crazy. I bought a 3/4 Scorpion helmet (EX0-200) and gave away my half helmet.

Welcome to the fraternity of Triumph.
As Billy said get a snug fit so it doesn't catch too much air at high speed and lift. Also, lower profile catches less air.
I prefer the HCI with the skirt. Helmet City or Jafrum are good sites to look at helmet options.

Don't stop believin'. You never know ahead of time when you're goin' to do the old ground-sky-ground. I've worn a shorty helmet before, it's cooler(temp), noisier, but I don't feel very protected. Wear a full-face with sunglasses and leave the visor up. Its cool enough for a South Florida 100 degree, 100% humidity day. I've hit the street twice in 39 years of riding, both times my full-face helmet saved my teeth. Speed Safe.

Hey welcome to the Forum Kris.
If safety is your concern then get a fullface helmet. I use an open face most of the time but that is because I have a fat head and that in the modern helmets feels like they are squashing my face to such an extent that I cant stand it. If I could find a comfortable fullface at a reasonable price I would wear it.
