Hey Everyone, so due to a few really happy accidents over the past few weeks, I've gone from my old 86 Intruder dying and having no transport to finally being able to own a Triumph. Anyway, my question here is, I just bought this beautiful 2002 Bonneville America and I'm curious what your opinions are of the chrome trim on it. I kind of like the way it looks on the tank flange, http://www.flickr.com/photos/63141480@N06/5742204790/in/photostreambut I'm not sure about the fenders. Its too much isn't it. Let me know what you think. http://www.flickr.com/photos/63141480@N06/5742204930/in/photostreamKris

First of all I think the tank looks GREAT like that (and I just LOVE those eyebrow badges)! Hey wait a minute... that's MY tank there!! Your tank... My tank... Secondly... with the fenders done up in chrome trim, I don't think it looks over done and again, looks GREAT! And thirdly, welcome to the site and thanks for posting!! Ya got good taste!

Thanks Keith. I got the bike and then scrubbed it from top to bottom and decided to trim the tank. Then I got bored and did the fenders. I always had a problem in art class where I'd take it a step too far. (you will appreciate the little chrome maple leaf I ordered for the rear fender though).

Very nice! Now just add a little wood and she'll be perfect!
I'm speeding because I have to get there before I forget where I was going.

Your bike looks good! I normally don't go much for the chrome trim but on your bike it doesn't look overdone.

Nice looking bike you have there Kris. Not overdone also. When you get that maple leaf in, take a couple of pics for your Canadian brothers.
Thanks for that site. Ordered a British flag emblem along with my own Maple Leaf. Probably end up on the windshield.

Nice looking bike, my concern for the stick on chrome trim/ door edging would be the amount of grit that might collect there making the bike harder to wash, etc. JMHO.
Ride on brother.

Thanks again for that site, Kris. I ordered the maple leaf and a yin/yang thingy on speculation I might have a place for either/or!

Hey Kris! Normally I wouldn't care for that chrome molding, BUT on your bike, it looks like a factory option. And like John says, "Who gives a damn about what the others think!" (or SOMETHING like that) Nice look.

Chrome rules! And I have thought about chome trimming the fenders on my 02 also, just can't make up my mind. And you'll find on this site, most everybody celebrates individuality, otherwise, we'd be riding Hardlys. Finally, welcome to the site!

Kris
Ihave the tank trim on mine and think its great. The fenders i had thought about but didn't do, i think like you,.. are at present. Might be a bit much, but if you leave it on ........you will get used to it.It don't mean a thing what others think.
Be your own judge and jury and you will be happier your whole life.I like it now more now that you have it. i think i'll do mine up, and see what reality brings to mind.

Kris.did you have any trouble tucking the ends it at the rear of the tank?Mine went on easily enough , but i couldn't decide on, those,--------how to make them stay. they will pop back off around the "quick bends" of the tank til the next day, then out they come again. i put this trim on my 03 shadow, never touched again , stayed right where i put it,My BA a different story. Any suggestions?

I didn't have any trouble with the tank. my ends are up in front and around the tight bend on the seat side of the tank I used a ziptie to hold the gum to the tank until it dried. I've had a couple of minor problems with the fenders, but I was able to straighten them out by constantly correcting it during the first few days until the gum cures. I was frustrated at first and considered taking it off, but it did eventually stay on. If I was going to do it again, I would recommend using a heat gun if you have one just to get it all a little more malleable while working.
