I works with lots of groups, each one seemingly having their own set of internal language, speaking in tongues .

It seems to be getting more & more popular & accepted (or I am getting older & grumpier ) for folks to reference an acronym (RDGB, CBGP, BR549, ABC etc, etc.) rather than actually saying out loud in a compleat sentence what RDGP, CDBG ABC stand for. When in a mixed audience, I'll watch the crowd and see quizzical expressions. Able to take it no more I'm the one who'll patiently raise his hand and ask "What does RDGB, CDBG stand for anyway? People thank you for asking the obvious.

I am at the point if they don't have time to actually say what they are trying to say, I don't have time to actually hear what they are trying to say

Better now

That's funny you should bring this up today. We just had a discussion about this today with our GM, SM, FOD, and CSM. The GM doesn't like acronyms, like SOP or SPLOF, but that's just TFB.

I only use WTF on here because of the AUP. In person, I say it all the time.

My peeve is acronyms within acronyms, like AIM for AOL Instant Messenger (instead of AOLIM).

Eeh! I think I know what our resident SPSCB is really peeved about with all this angst-ridden talk about acronyms here, and why he really started this thread, folks.

Uh huh! Ya see, I'll bet every time he spots that "SWTF?????" thread in the Rides and Rallies Forum, it just burns him up inside that he can't make it there again this year!!!

Yep! He ain't foolin' me any!

(...oh btw...that "SPSCB" up there stands for: Self-Professed Simple Country Boy)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

It was not too bad till TEXTING was invented.

My wife had a student turn in a paper written in TXT short hand.. The really sad part is when the mother called to complain to my wife about why her son got an F until rewritten. Talk about a FUBAR parent!

Well, if the paper was meant to be a creative commentary, a lampoon if you will; then I can see the point.
Of course it would depend on the assignment and the student's history as to whether it was appropriate.

My pet peeve with some acronyms is when they are not used correctly like, FUBAR and SANFU. FUBAR is when something goes terribly wrong, not something that is already messed up. You dont hit a SNAFU. A SNAFU is not when something goes wrong. SNAFU is a constant state.
