I hope I am posting this in the right section.

I am curious if anybody on this board has ridden both and could comment on the differences? They are a lot alike in some ways but different animals in another. The Bville standard should have better performance on paper due to a bit more power and lighter weight. I like the low seat height of the America and standard pegs. It doesnt have a tach though! I really have my heart set on a standard. IM an old fart and it reminds me of bikes back from the 70's. I have to get away from vibration also.

Can the standard Bonneville be lowered just a bit say like 1 inch? Im curious if anyone on this board owns one. I would love to hear from you or maybe somebody could point me to a forum where I could learn more.

Thank you.

Look at the Bonneville SE, they are a touch lower. I think they are completely different rides, the America is laid back and definitely heavier, feet forward and wide bars. The Bonneville is a very quick bike, gets up to speed faster, turns faster, more agile and nimble. If you want a standard style, you can't go wrong with one. You can add a tach to an America easily enough. Personally, I really like riding the Bonneville for short times, but I love my America and it is made for the long haul.

I have had both at the same time... Had to trade one to get a big touring bike and still have the America. Loved my T100 but I did nit find it as versatile as the America which is great from cruising, commuting, touring.

Thom I might be wrong, I sometimes am.

The seat height is the same on the Bonneville and the Bonneville SE. Is there any difference in gearing? I cant seem to find this information. Thanks.

The America sounds different/better with different crank timing. I like the T-100 and I'd love to add a black SE to the stable, but the engine feels buzzier to me. IIRC the bonnie is technically smoother and a touch more powerful, maybe just at the high end.

In the end, you can't go wrong with a Triumph vertical twin. Buy what you want. Don't second guess yourself later.

Ride both bikes keeping in mind the pupose for which you will use it for .
My friend Clarkie has a Bonnieville T100 and he rides that thing everywhere even cruises at 140kph fully loaded. I'm a bit taller so find the Speedmistress just right for me.

I've ridden all of the Bonnie-derived twins & the 360 Bonnie is my least favorite of them all. So what. The only thing that matters is what you (OP) like.

You really need to check out the 2011 America or Speedmaster. You are going to love the ride much more than the Piglet. The reason I say the 2011 America and Speedmaster, is that the lowered seat another inch, moved the controls back slightly and pulled the handle bars back a bit too. They did all this without losing the awesome handling capabilities and comfort of the older bikes.

i have had a 2003 t100, 2006 scrambler, 2009 bonnie and now have the speedmaster.
the 03 was nice but the suspension was just slightly stiffer than a hard tail. after new shocks and a few other bits it was ok.
scrambler was fun but the pipe was always in the way, and it's a little taller.
the standard bonnie with the cast wheels was a nice bike that handled the twisties very good..
the speedy handles well and is comfy for long rides since i changed the seat and the rear shocks.

for bonnie stuff look to:

If it isn't broke, I haven't messed with it.

Yup. I have the hots for a Scrambler with a narrowed bar, street-biased tires, and low pipe such as a Zard...

The seat height on the standard Bonnie isn't an issue but the peg height is...I had to lower the pegs an inch just to make it comfortable. You really need to sit on both before you can make a decent decision. I've had both bikes and the power output is very similar leaving the handling the only big factor...the Bonnie is quicker handling in the turns but the America/Speedmaster is much better on the open road (and only slightly heavier handling in the twisties).
