I've been to 3 autoparts stores looking for copper based anti-sieze compound. Today the the guy says to me, (using my best doofus voice imitation), "Ah' been here 21 years and ah' never heard of thet stuff".
I know it's out there, I've seen it. I used it when I worked on the oil rigs, only we'd buy it in 2 gallon buckets. So, I came home and looked on the net. Locktite makes it and so do several other companies. Where do you find it?
I'm tired of having parts guys look at me like I'm crazy.
Thanks, Cody

I could not find it at auto parts places either. Here is a link for a search I did on the net. I fianlly did order some off the net, kinda expensive with shipping, but at least I got some. It last a long time for sure. Loctite C5-A

That's odd, I got a nice big can of it at Auto Zone for about $7 a couple years ago. It was with all the gasket sealent stuff.

I got some at Napa autoparts. Manager at Napa asked me why I wanted copper. I said that's what guys recommended to me online. I've known this guy for a while and he pretty sharp. He said "Silver for high temp applications and copper for lower temp applications." Does anyone out there know if this is true. If so why use copper over silver?

I got the Loctite copper stick. It's like a big chap stick. Was reading the label for temp. info, doesn't say hi-temp anywhere.

I bought a tube of copper based anti-sieze at a local Advanced Auto Parts store. The brand was "VersaChem" and it is "type-13". It states on the tube "Hi-Temp copper formula resists temperatures up to 2000F" Uses: exhaust manifold bolts, head bolts, EGR valves, turbocharger bolts, spark plug threads. etc.
The silver forumula can probably be used in the nuclear power industry.
You shouldn't have any problem finding copper based anti-sieze. I used some on the AI system port plugs when I removed the AI system.

I got my tube of Permatex anti-seize from Checker Auto Parts. I use it all the time on the bolts that go into the fender rail. I switch from the sissy bar/pillion to solo seat often, and the anti-seize helps to keep the different sized bolts from cross threading. I just spread some on the threads every 1-2 months.

After I posted this I went out once again to find the copper stuff. I went to Ace Hardware, Northern Supply, American Auto Parts, and Sears. Nada.
A while back I bought the gray stuff cause I couldn't find the copper. I smeared some on my spark plug threads. My bike ran rough so I pulled the plugs and wiped off the compound the best I could. The bike ran good again. Lesson learned, but still trying to find the good stuff. I'll try Napa when I get over that way again.

Found mine at Pep Boys along with all the RTV, loctite, etc. It's a silver tube, but says copper on it...

I got my copper anti sneeze at Advanced Auto. A 1 oz. tube, says it's good for 2000 deg.F. Should be enough to last me for life, unless I open a bike shop.
I use copper anywhere steel bolts go into aluminum castings. Otherwise, I use the silver (aluminum) stuff.
