I am wanting to adhere a metal bit to my chrome battery cover. What is the best way to do this without roughing up the chrome? Steve, how did yo attach your lizards? Thanks!

You should rough the chrome at the contact points but JB Weld works very well, used it several places on my bike and Wendy's bike and been a couple years now and nothing let go yet.

I have a Rocket 3 saddlebag embellisher on my battery cover I stuck on there with double-sided body molding tape . Get the good stuff , like 3M and it will be there for the life of the bike .

I actually drilled the lizards and used a screw with loctite. I wanted to make sure they wouldn't vibrate off and also make it difficult for someone to remove without tools.

Like Dog said , JB Weld or other epoxy type resins get a better grip if the surface is abraded , but tape is the opposite - it won't stick well to a scuffed surface .

Brent, I use a high-strength double sided-tape to hold the wood veneer on my bike. Have plent on hand. It is a good strong hold and works great. The role I have is 6" wide. Send me a PM or call and I'll pass some on to you.
I'm speeding because I have to get there before I forget where I was going.

Brent, I simply use industrial grade Silastic to hold my badge on. Have done a similar thing on my '71 Tiger and has held fast for over 6 years now with no problem.

If permanence is desired, consider 2 part Devcon "5 Minute Epoxy" I used some to adhere the little metal mounting tab for the rear view windshield mirror inside my pickup. The other day when I removed the tab for an electrical upgrade, it snapped a metal tab shaped piece of glass out of the windshield. I guess you could say that was a good bond.

This is no comment one way or the other on how good or bad the adhesive you use is Bucky but regular windshield mirror adhesive will do the same thing if applied right.

Exactly what I was thinking, put a piece of masking tape over it while it sets up so it doesn't move.

Thanks guys, I'll try one of these Ideas. I better decide if I ever want to be able to remove it in the future. I want to put a metal bit (similar) to John's badge there on a chrome side panel, but I may want to paint that panel someday instead of chrome. I guess I have some decisions to make.
Thanks for all your help.

another good trick when doing that Paul is to circle the spot you want to glue the puck on with soap on the outside of the glass. Makes positioning easy.

Try some bubble gum, Brent. You'll be able to get it off later with some gasoline! (Well, it worked when I was a kid!)
