Damn, I wish folks would quit posting pictures of Doug's bike! I just saw in on the splash page and now I'm having those inadequate, damn look what I could have had feelings again (provided I had the expertise, time and money).
I love my Elvira but I whole heartedly LUST after that dang bike. It's like strutting a naked Victorias secret model in from of a married man on his 30th wedding anniversary... and having them say "hey big boy... I know you like what you have but wouldn't you like to take me for a ride?" Seriously... what would you do?
Please... no more pictures!
'06 TBA - Black, AI and Snorkel removed, K&N Drop In, Gutted Stock Pipes, 145/42, 2 turns out.

Couldn't agree with you more, Don! In my book, Doug's Bobber is still Numero Uno Custom around these here parts!
(...though dertbikedennis's custom is a very close second!)

There's a lot of things I like about that bike, but the bigger wheels just seem to take it to another level (no pun intended)!
Live to love, love to live.

I would love to do that, but with my short legs I wouldn,t touch the floor.

I like the bigger front wheel - the rear is not obvious to me - hard to tell.
What does the larger front do to the bike's handling?

Doug graciously allowed me to take his bike for a spin a few years back, Richard. The bike handled very nicely with that 21 incher and fairly wide front wheel.
The only thing I wasn't crazy about was that I scraped his mufflers(or somethin' down there, anyway) a bit in turns because it is lowered.

Wow you guys really know how to rub it in. Our friend here expresses a little bike envy here, along with his personal feelings of inadequacy over his own bike. So you guys go on about how great the soul survivor bike is. Without one word of consolation. With friends like you guys .....................
I love that bike. Mostly the color

Yeah, actually that's a good point there, Chad!
(...but then again, did you REALLY ever think anybody would ever receive ANY sympathetic responses about ANYTHING from THIS rabble around here???!!!)

After some badgering from John about submitting photos for the bike of the week I relented. When I did all this work to it the year was 2004/2005. I have not touched it since. Some hate it some love it. I built it my way. It handles better than stock and cetainly smokes the stock setup. Embarrassing 1200 Sportsters is a hobby of mine. I live in Torrance, CA. If any of you are in the area Pm me and you can ride around the Palos Verdes Peninsula along the ocean. I'll provide a map for you and a full tank of gas. And the scraping of the pipes is half the fun. The titanium tabs welded to the insides of the bubs really lets off nice sparks.

Hey Doug! Gotta say that is one generous offer there! Just a couple o' questions for ya though: First, wouldn't magnesium tabs give off a heck of a lot more sparks than the titanium??? And secondly, when is that OTHER beauty o' yours, the Norton Commando, gonna be ready for you to post some pics of around here, huh?!

Yep, AND those who STILL might "hate it", might still not really be "haters" at all anyway!
(...nope, they just might be BLIND and their seeing eye dog isn't into motorcycle at all...except when he's chasin' 'em down the street!!!)

Indeed.
As far as Doug's bike goes... DAMN! It's just plain wicked awesome!! One thing I am having trouble with, though. Where is the tail/brake light? Do the rear turn indicators pull double duty in that department?

That was YOU???
FANTASTIC!
Though I do think it was cruel of you to make your twin brother dressup like you
Oh yeah, great looking bike there Doug. If that green had been available when I was buying, that would have been the colour for me, even though it would have meant sacrificing the speed of a black one
Too old to die young, too ugly to leave a good looking corpse

Nice vidja Fishster. Your name wouldn't happen to have anything to do with Phish would it? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHjE3XzmQl8

Gotta say for a young long haired larrikan, you sure do have some talent. You and Keith should get together sometime.
Usually people crucify themselves doing a Pink Floyd cover. Very respectful.

Yes they do. They pull triple duty; run, brake(three flashes then solid), and turn signals.

You would be surprised at some of the comments I have heard when standing next to it by those not knowing who owns it. I just roll my eyes as they take off with their kick stands still down. But thank you for liking it.

Hmmm..I will have to give that magnesium a thought. The Commando has some work to do. I have rebuilt the Amal 932s, converting to electronic ignition, and having the fiberglass tank resealed. Ethenol will kill the fiberglass. Plus doing the general maintenance on a bike I don't know its past all to well. But it was taken care of. And Dwight...if I have this running when YOU get out here I will expect you to ride it. Now I know how you feel when you hop on your flat tracker. Nothing like our new Bonnes. Lighter, faster, scarier. You know you are living when you ride these old bikes.

Yup... that was me and my, ahem, *twin*. Thanks, guys! LP ~ My name hasn't a thing to do with Phish. Short story: I used fish as a swear word when I was a little kid... and it stuck.

Even the bike and the trophies are color coordinated. How quaint. Seriously though, sweet bike! Digging the turn signals.
