It's usually done every 12K miles. I'm getting close and am also interested. I'm going to have to read the Haynes manual in my garage and decide if I have the time, tools and skills to do it.

Doesn't take a lot of time.

Doesn't need a lot of tools.

A little skill and common sense will see you through.

Read the Haynes manual and you will be fine. A lot of guys on this forum have done the valves for the first time and had no problems.

If you get stuck while doing the job jump on line and ask.

Everybody here is always willing to help.

Ask and ye shall receive... I compiled this from threads when I did my first one a few years ago.

Most of it isn't needed if you just want to check your clearances. You don't need a new gasket, just feeler gauges. Just did mine again and they were close enough to spec to put the cam cover back on and keep riding.

Hey ya Todd... a valve check isn't that big a deal. I've been a little shy to do my own work but I'm getting over it and to be honest?... it's THIS place that's helped build my confidence. Any uncertainties are quickly addressed by helpful responses from fellow members. Yup, follow the Haynes for sure... stay in touch here and get to know your bike in the process (in between things you can read 'Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance but it's not required reading, lol!).

My last valve adjustment was at 30,000 miles after 8,000 mile road trip. have almost 97,000 and haven't touch them.
Should do them some time. But It sounds good, so why mess with them.

I was so much older then, I am younger than that now (Wrote By Dylan Sung by the BYRDS,)

Mine has 35,000 (ish) kms. Checked the valve clearances and no adjustments required.

The main thing about doing it is if you have to do the adjustments (as you see on here some have checked and didn't have to do any). Before you just start removing things and going with it. Let me know before you start I will send you a copy of the manual via e-mail. you should follow the instructions because there are a few little tricky parts but nothing you can't handle.
