Will our bikes fully charge the battery with no supplemental (i.e. Battery Tender) charging, just by riding it?

Absolutely. A battery tender is only for when the bike is going to sit for a long time, a few months or so. Even then, a good battery does not always need help keeping a charge.

... and if you do a lot of short trips (the battery does a lot of starting and very little charging) ... and if you have an EFI bike you'll need to keep the battery charged above 11.6v

You betcha, Don! I ride with driving lights on and heated vest if needed and my battery never needs supplementary charges. However as Richard pointed out, if you do a lot of short trip/start up rides you might not be giving the battery enough time to fully recharge.

Under normal circumstances you need about an hour ride to bring your battery back especially if you have accys you are running too.
