I have aftermarket pipes (D&D's). When I removed the tips to have them powdercoated the fiberglass inards came out of the pipe. I just shoved it back in and fastened tip back on. Now when idiling i can hear the stuff rattling around in there...Do these need to sit in there a certain way or is there something I need to know about putting these back together? Thanks, Ryan

I am sure someone on here knows and will answer.
I have no faith in human perfectability. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active - not more happy - nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago.

How many miles have you done with those pipes?
Fiberglass degrades with the exhaust gasses and needs to be replaced every couple of years or so - depending on how much you ride. You will notice the sound and timbre of fiberglass pipes change over time. You probably need to re-pack them with fresh fiberglass.

There are 18,000 or so miles on these pipes (Installed in 05). Will check into replacing them but it just sounds as if the fiberglass tube isn't seated right in there or something. Thanks for the reply Foglefar...

The fiberglass should not be loose - it should be packed fairly tight. If it is loose it probably means it has degraded further in. When that happens it breaks down into small bits and gets blown out the exhaust pipe leaving room for the remaining bits to move around. Quote:

You don't need to replace the pipes - just the fiberglass inside probably needs replacing.
