First off... I SWEAR I used the search button. The only info I saw about the kickstand making contact while riding was regarding lowered bikes. To my knowledge my 2003 BA has not been lowered or had any suspension mods. The thing is, I don't even have to be leaning over very far (at least it doesn't seem so) to feel it scrape the ground. Is this normal/common? Any suggestions?
Thanks!

You both had to change the spring? Where did you guys acquire a replacement? Does it need to come from a dealer or are there any hardware store options?

There might be some generic spring out there that'll work but I didn't look. I got mine from a dealer.

My original one dragged and the tab to put it down eventually broke off. I got the replacement off ebay from an '04 Speedmaster I think. The casting was different and the springs were stronger. Haven't had a problem since then (dragging the footboards, on the other hand... ). I stashed another kickstand away just in case.

What part of the stand is dragging? If it's the little arm that helps put the stand down you can bend it up(slowly!) a little to help out. It's best if a helper holds the bike up and you do the bending with the stand up. If you have no help, it takes a little trial and error to get it right.

I do believe it is the little arm that is scraping. I looked at a little tonight, but with the rain I didn't want to pull it all the way out and if you all saw the narrow bit of garage my bike is parked in, well, you'd probably smack me. The spring does seem to pull it up tight to the frame, so next time I get to ride (hopefully Sunday) I'll try to take a couple turns in an open lot so I can glance down without worrying about running into something.

Slip a pipe over the arm and bend it gently toward the frame to increase your clearance. It'll sill scrape but you'll gain a good bit of lean angle before it does.

Put it up on a stand and see where it sits. You MAY need to bend the part you push down upon up and in to minimize it's contact with the ground. I bent mine last fall when it froze up. I actually had to stop at a garage and get someone to pry it down so I could get off the bike.
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

Your bolt may be loose. This happened to me and she fell over. I noticed it was leaning more and more and then, boom, down she went. Make sure that bolt is tight.

What clued me into my "new" 07 TBA was lowered was my Harbor Freight (or similar) bike lift. With the old 07 TBA, the lift slid in underneath nicely. With the "new" 07 TBA, I quickly discovered that I had to sit on the bike to keep her upright so the lift would slide underneath.
If she was lowered, the kickstand would have to be modified/shortened. I understand that they usually use a cutting torch and cut a short section off and reweld the "pad" back on. Look at the kickstand. If you see an area that is missing chrome and looks corroded, that's another sign she's lowered.
Also, on a thread, somewhere here, I had posted a pic of my fork tool bag. Some smart and eagle eyed people here quickly noted the short clearance between the bag and the fender.
And, last but not least, the ride was not very smooth. Some people really like the lowered look, not for me. Everytime I went over RR tracks, I thought I was going to get tossed. I chalked it up to the fact that I had not ridden for 2 years, since my bike accident. I definitely noticed a vast impreovement when she was "unlowered" and Ricor Intiminator installed in the forks. Hagon Nitros are nice too!!
Good luck!

I have no faith in human perfectability. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active - not more happy - nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago.

Ok, I took an old BMX handle bar and gently bent the arm upward. I was able to lean much further without scraping today. Actually, the only time it scraped was when I hit a bump while turning and bounced a little. There's a little play in the kickstand where it's bolted on, but I imagine a little bit is normal, yes? locopony ~ here's some pics taken right after bending...
