Hi Guys, I know its been a while but we want to get this project 100%. The first run of 270 cams are off the production line and once final grinding and hardening takes place they will be subjected to intense scrutiny and final testing before being made available for sale. These have been already extensively tested on the 865 motors and will be tested on the 790`s very shortly.
A 360 degree version is already being measured up for prototype manufacture.

They're still saying to be announced, but as i recall Graeme said a while back they were estimating something like $800 or thereabouts.

Hi, The cost has been finalised today as NZ$1395 (plus local taxes for NZ buyers) which at todays rate is around $950US.
Thanks for your question.

Anyone...why would a typical, non-racing, TBA owner want to install high performance camshafts? Durability, performance, ??? Just trying to learn. Thanks!

Straightforward grunt and roll-on power in any gear was the target of this exersize. These motors have a largely untapped ability to give strong power at any rpm, the type that requires less gearchanging for any given requirement.
Good question though.

Hi, We have dropped the prototypes into a completely std 865, one with our pipes only and one with one of our specially prepared cylinder heads and the results are impressive. I dont think you would fit them to a std bike though without fitting our pipes, the benefits are there at higher rpm (with std pipes) but still wouldnt perhaps give you what you might be looking for bang for buck-wise.
Our site will have the dyno charts posted asap - the modded head bike with std carbs and airbox posted 74rwbhp compared to an original 52!

Hi Graeme, So all I gotta do is sent you $1700 US, and I get the cams AND pipes? I wish you'd take just one 'hot' check. Thanks for all your engineering and effort.

I typed a lot and deleted it.
Over $100.00 per horse improvement. I don't understand it. Buy a 955I and go racing.
I guess its the tinkering that is fun but the price tags are well above my pay grade.

RCV, I said it before on your previous thread, and I'll say it again, looks like exceptional craftmanship and innovation. Now here's your next project for you! :-) Consider the billet camshafts as a warm-up, and tackle a custom billet crankshaft! Stronger than a conventional-cast crank, with the option of either stroking or de-stroking! Now that would be the bomb! But excellent work and offerings to date, thanks again!

that is some impresive power on the 865 motor. cannot wait for the 790 results. this may make the difference in weather to get the bb kit

What i'd like to know is how much HP gain with pipes but WITHOUT the head work. After all, if the gains are much less w/o the head work than $900 might not be worth it. And i'm sure the head work would jack the cost way up.

Hi, Thanks for the positive comments, we appreciate any feedback no matter what type it may be. As far as the crankshaft suggestion is concerned we could do that without too much drama I`m sure. This camshaft project has been very interesting and a bit of an eye opener for sure as no doubt a crankshaft project would also be, my concern however would have to be who would buy them and for what associated purpose? - sounds good though!

As far as this being DINQUA's secret weapon, Nope he has something else up his sleave, but if I know him he is probably working out some kind of deal to get a set of these as well. Since I just got done tearing my engine down, I am familiar with the camshafts and from these pictures I don't see the two piece gear that is spring loaded, where you have to install the pins to keep them aligned when removing the OEM camshafts. Any input on this???? But sorry you will have to keep guessin on the secret weapon!

TBA, Big Bore, Performance Cam shafts, Billet crank, Performance Pipes, Fuel Injection, K&N filters, Iridium plugs, You could call it the "Bonneville America RR" ahhhh....wonder how it would go??? haha
Top work RCV, this item is now on my wish list! (Mr Bank manager, can I have a chat?)

Hi, We`re definitely considering the 'hot cheque' option, in fact we`d probably even consider a 'hot chick' option as well to be fair.
A pipe/cam combo list is definitely on the cards though, including one for our new Scrambler - thank you Mr Bloor :-)

Hi Ron, This one`s easy, all the noise reduction components swop over between your existing camshafts and ours. Some of the images shown are incomplete cams straight off the cnc machine hence no pins etc.

Hi, Its best we get the curves up on our site for a proper inspection which will be done asap before final conclusions are drawn. We`d do a Thunderbike head prep for around $400US and yes it does make a considerable differenc to the package.
I`ll post a link as soon as we can upload the charts.
Cheers

Uh...are you saying that you are developing an ignition that will relieve the 270 degree engine's fault of cutting out after a certain rpm AND will up the limiter?!!! If so, i believe i'm in if it's not rediculously expensive ! that would be awesome. Do you have a ballpark figure as to the price? Just an idea? $150? $300? $500?

Yes I am, we are still very early into this particular project but I believe more information will be available in the next few weeks with regard to performance and cost. If my initial findings follow through the ability to rev to mid nines, perhaps ten thousand rpm will be possible - reliably. It should be noted that a rpm limiter will definitely be incorporated and just because it allows lets say for the sake of argument 10,000rpm before it kicks in, it doesnt mean you have to rev your bike that high, it just allows you the freedom and flexibility beyond the Triumph Brick wall limiter we enjoy so much at present while still protecting your motor in the event of a missed gear or whatever, it will also incorporate a throttle position sensor.
Early days though - and dont forget you heard it here 1st!, and thanks for asking.
Cheers Graeme@Thunderbike

That sounds good to me. I actually welcome a limiter, AS LONG AS IT ONLY HAPPENS WELL AFTER THE POINT WHERE THE BIKE HAS STOPPED GENERATING POWER !!! My bike feels like it's just coming on when the freakin thing cuts out. I feel like the bikes 0-60 and 1/4 mile times would be pitiful because of that ****** limiter. I don't even enjoy the occasional wind-out anymore because i have to concentrate on the tach and try and shift before the limiter kicks in. It's more of a chore than fun. Triumph really blew it in this area. They should have designed an ingition that would allow the 270 to spin up much higher and set the limiter at 9k. No one may ever get to 9k w/o mods, but as you said it would be a safety factor if you hit a false neutural while wot thru the gears. I can't believe what bikes have come to since i stopped riding 2 decades ago. Now they have limiters and all this emissions carap, and we gotta pay to bring them back to where they SHOULD be in the first place ! What next? A MPH limiter? Air bags? Cage please...

RCV, a few questions about your under-development ignitor, if I may: Is this based off an OE unit, or will this be a completely aftermarket construction? And then, if this is aftermarket, what's the possibility of you being able to incorporate the ability to electronically advance or retard the entire ignition advance curve in 1 degree increments? Talking with Jojje via email last year, he mentioned that before he was able to re-program the brain, he had machined a new mount for the ignition pick-up inside of the RH engine case that manually advanced the curve, but when he learned how to reprogram, then he was able to adjust his advance electronically. Just food for thought.

Oh god no !!! I hate sportbikes. I have yet to own any bike i love as much as this one, but no bike is perfect and this just happens to be one way it isn't. But to trade it for a sportbike would be like ordering something you hate in a restaurant because it come with an eggrol the dish you love doesn't.

Because to me it's just not fun watching the tach and trying to shift before it cuts out. It's fine if i'm winding it to any lesser degree where i'm not going to hit the limiter. But when i wind it out to get max accelleration the limiter is a pain and it simply ruins the fun of it for me. I never owned a bike with a limiter before this and never had to deal with it. I like feeling the engine and knowing instinctivly when the power is just starting to drop off then shifting. It's a whole different thing.
