Need to replace the front rotor on my bike. Is there any benefit to buying a floating rotor over a standard one. The prices are the same at fast eddys, so that isn't the issue.

Are there any pitfalls with the floating one?

The floating rotor should be less sensitive to alignment issues.

I believe they're not as susceptible to warping.

I fitted an EBC floating front rotor from Fast Eddy's two weeks ago and it is one of the best mods I have done to my TBA so far. My OEM front rotor was extremely warped when I bought the bike with only 6000 kms on it. The EBC rotor is far superior in it's machining quality speaking from experience (I'm a Fitter & Turner/Machinist by trade) and has proved to be an awesome stopper. It also looks a lot nice than the stock rotor as well. Thoroughly recommend them Ted. Oh just a word of warning. If you do fit a new rotor and wish to re-use the original rotor bolts, make sure you use an impact driver to remove them or you may damage the hex pattern on the socket head screws.

It looks nicer than the stock should be followed by a pic so we can see.

A floating rotor is a far superior system for lots of reasons that I will not go into at this time, but look it up you will learn things you probably didn't know about your brake system.

Johnquinnell:

Thanks for the review and the advice. Sometimes I don't reach for the impact driver until it is too late.

locopony says a floating rotor is a far superior system, but doesn't mention his personal experience.

Wonder why.

"Sometimes I don't reach for the impact driver until it is too late."
That's why you don't need a tourqe wrench.
You just tighten it up 'til it snaps off,
then back off a quarter turn.
Removing frozen rusted dis-similar metal
bolts can be tricky.

Thanks Uncle Charlie.

I am pretty experienced in doing things wrong. I just need training in doing them right.

I went home with a waitress,
like I always do.
How was I to know,
she was with the Russians too?
