Very odd, could you add an additional washer.
What bar ends were you running?

It's not speeding till you get pulled over.

I might be a bit confused myself as I havn't seen my stock mirrors for some time. Isn't there a locking type nut on top that you tighten the stem down with?

Maybe that has been removed thats why you cant tighten them. I will go and look for my standard mirrors in the shed somewhere and check them.

Sorry my bad. I just found my mirrors and they are fixed with a screw from underneath. I play with too many different toys and got confused.

Does the screw tighten into the stem without putting it on the bike or is the thread stripped?

Mine dosn't have the corrugated insert but its an 06 and just tightens up. Maybe make sure the stem is in the right position to be fully locked in so the thread of the screw engages properly. I'm sorry, I am out of ideas. Good luck.

I was going to mention the stamped insert. My stock 04 mirrors had them.

Just keep tightening the screw. As the screw tightens, it will draw down the mirror stem into the mounting hole. It is almost impossible to get the mirror stem to seat by hand. At least that was my experience. I put in some Never-Seize on the stem.

EDIT: They will still be able to move a bit laterally if you push/pull on them, but should not move while riding. If they move, just put in a flat washer under the wavy washer and tighten it up a bit.

H.
