I am replacing dry rotted tires and rusty chain on a 2002 BA which I just picked up for my cousin. I have an endless o ring chain which I was planning on splitting and installing,(I have the link removal press and have used it in the past). the local dealer had only "clip" style master links and assured me that these were fine, (seems odd since the chain comes as 1 piece). Also, the links come with a disclaimer by D.I.D.,(the manufacturer), recommending against the product contained in the pouch it is printed on, (probably the result of some adverse litigation). Furthermore, if I remove the wheel and the progressive 412 shock, (which needs to be prepped masked and painted black where the powdercoat lifted at the lower body) and the swingarm to facilitate the installation of the chain,(sans splitting), then I will surely paint the swingarm, chainguard, and rear fender, (which are all passable). That's just the way I get.
What do you think? Would you guys use the clip type link, (probably good enough), hold out for a rivet style, or get nuts on someone else's bike even while I have a butt load of my own crap that isn't getting done.
