Hi Folks. I just put my long slash cut TORS on my 2010 Speedmaster. The way people talk about them they are just one step above the stock 'sewing machine' standard exhaust. Well, according to my ears, they seem three times louder! I'm going to be real popular at 0500 hrs when I fire those up to go to work! Granted, I'm not used to them, and I'm sure they'll grow on me over time. I had my wife on the back, and she was saying that she'd need to wear earplugs around town. We usually only wear our earplugs if we're going to be doing speeds over 80 km/h (50 mph). Anybody know the db level of these pipes? Having said all this, it now sounds like a Triumph when she runs up through the gears! H.

I think you'll be okay in the AM. I find with my TORS they don't really wake up until I roll it on. Is that close to your experience so far?
Live to love, love to live.

Hey Keith. Well, these pipes are definitely awake on fast idle! At idle they are barely audible, can hear a deep rumble, but quiet. Flick the right wrist a bit, and she responds with a bark. I'm not complaining about them, just quite surprised at the volume. The quality of the tone is excellent. There is no doubt that my neighbours will know what time I leave for work. May not be a bad thing, actually I was REALLY close to buying the Trident pipes, but I wasn't convinced they'd be quiet enough for me. I believe I made the right choice. The unfortunate thing is that the TORS aren't stainless. H.

Those were my thoughts exactly, when I put my TORs on. You will get used to them, and the sound mellows some after the innards get a good coating of carbon and soot. But they do sound good!

I dunno. Pulled mine off recently and put the originals back on. Main reason was that even after I had the machine remapped, it just didn't seem to run right. A lot of popping and snapping on decel. Either the shop ripped me for the remap, or there was some other element that didn't get changed. Putting the original pipes back on smoothed her out. Now I have found a certain bliss in quiet, so I will probably leave them on. One thing that might be a factor is that the Short Slash Tors I have were for the earlier (pre '07) models and didn't seem to mesh right up. They had about a 1/16th" gap at the flanges. I covered them with metal tape but could still here a slight "clicking" sound. May have been the factor. Still I think the shop might have pointed it out to me. At any rate there will probably be a set of Short Slash TORS up in the classifieds soon. They are not in mint condition. I practiced on them a couple of times.

The pipes are different between EFI and carb bikes. If you had the remap, and you are still getting popping on decel, then there is an air leak and that is causing the popping. The joint between the header pipe and the muffler must be properly fitted, and air tight. I used Permatex Ultra Copper RTV sealant.
I am getting zero poppping on decel with the 20184 map and EFI spec TORS on my 2010.

Good to know that I'm not alone. And you are also correct in saying that the tone will change a bit once there's some carbon buildup. Overall, I'm pleased.
