This past october I bought a 2002 america black and silver. I use to ride many years ago in Fla when I was in high school and after graduation. just about everyone that rode had a british bike. honda's were just coming on to the scene and HD wasn't a young persons bike. I always loved the look of the triumphs and bsa's. finally after many years of raising a family and 40 years of working I finally have another one. I've enjoyed poking around on the forum. what a great resource. Thanks. http://s1132.photobucket.com/albums/m571/02_america/

Thanks to everyone for the kind words. Now for a question.... my rear seat bolt is loose in the fender. upon removing the rear seat it's obvious that I'm missing the fastening part that the bolt screws into the fender. any ideas on what the threaded part is, i.e. a pressed threaded insert, or a stationary bolt on the underside of the fender? what would be the best way to fix it?
Thanks to everyone again.
Frank

It's an 8mm nut that was brazed or welded onto the underneath of the fender, Frank.
I know a few folks around here have had that nut either break away from its weld or have stripped the threads in that nut from over-tightening the bolt which holds the back of the seat onto the fender.
If the nut is still attached underneath, you can carefully retap it to 10mm and get a 10mm bolt to hold down the seat(which is what I've done)...or....if your nut is missing, then you could possibly use some JB Weld to reattached a new 8mm nut underneath.

Welcome Frank. Like the others have said, that's a beautiful paint job on the tank. I really like that. I can't help you with the rear seat (pillion), as I went with a one-piece touring seat. I think it's pressed but don't quote me on that. Hopefully one of the smarter guys can answer it.

If the nut is absent under the mud guard, suggest you use a through bolt and a fender washer and the lowest profile 8mm nut available to you, if the spot welded nut is stripped then the prior advice of retapping to a 10mm thread and a new 10mm bolt is in order, use the shortest bolt you can get by with, you don't want custom grooves in your tire

thanks for the advice on the rear fender bolt issue. I may take the fender off and have another braised on or spot welded. there isn't much room between the fender and the tire. the hole is about 3/16 of an inch in diameter. the nut must have broken off.
Thanks again guys.
