Not much chance I'll make it Bob I'm 2500 miles away. I'm not leaving Kentucky till the 5th of May hoping to be in Portland on the 9th maybe the 10th at the latest.. It'd be cool to meet some folks from the site and get a guided tour of the prime riding spots when I get there though.

Fish, are you still meeting me at Winco's at about 9:15 AM? I want to allow enough time to get to Snohomish on my back roads jaunt. I'd hate to get to the Buzz Inn and find out everyone left 10 minutes earlier.

Steve

Hi Steve... sorry about the late post. Had some things to catch up on since I just got back from vacation today and I've been doing a lot of running around.

Anyway, the short version is I'm taking a different route... a very long different route.

The long version is my BFCG texted me to see if I'd ride with him in the morning to meet our friend Rick so we could ride with him to Bellingham where he has an appt to get his right side handlebar replaced. (He just got a Kawasaki Concours. His first bike, if I heard correctly.) After his appt the three of us are heading to meet up with the group at the Buzz Inn.

Sorry I won't be riding up with you... I was looking forward to it. But when my best friend calls, well, he's there for me when I call and I try and return the favor as often as possible.

See you in Snohomish!

Yep, I got that e-mail as well. I guess she didn't want to join up. That or she didn't want have a lot of people crash our little get-together.

I rode on 12, when I rode around Mt. Rainier last year. It IS very boring. I'll never take it again, if I don't have too. Next time, after riding down the mountain, I'll turn around and go back up. It's a prettier ride, plus you go through a little tunnel so I can hear my Bubs even better!!

Only four of us showed up at the Buzz Inn. On the way, i discovered the Redmond Roundabout madness. Even with a late start, a more backroads route, stop for gas and a quick bite at a McD's, I still got there on time.

Z, Karen & Bob greeted me at the Buzz Inn where we reminisced a bit. After getting some much needed sun, we decided to head out on Z's itinerary.
As usual, Z picked a great route with some beautiful scenery, nice twisties and places where we could twist the throttle a little. We set out with Z in front, followed by karen, myself and Rocket Bob keeping an eye on us all. Z bought his GoPro camera (damn that thing is tiny!!) and shot video with the camera facing forwards and backwards. He ran out of memory but hopefully he got some good stuff.

Along the way, I tangled with some big wasp, or something, that landed right on my lid's visor, as we went through some S curves. This made that set of turns "interesting" for me and I'm sure Bob was thinking, "damn not again!". Fortunately, nothing serious happened and we head on to a beautiful scenic stop in Carnation. Z, however, encountered another bug on the way. I doubt it was a wasp, it was greenish-yellow and left a big ol'splat right in his line of site on his visor.

After some picture taking at the stop and Z cleaning his visor, we headed on to Redmond the pub. Turns out Gordie and Andy were waiting for us there. I haven't seen Gordie or his bike since before my accident 3 years ago. It looks like he took down a big ol'yak or wooly mammoth and it's hide now covers the seat of his bike. However, I'm a little worried about Z riding around with part of the penis bone of a sting ray pushing on his ass. I hope this is NOT the reason why he likes to ride...

Fish and his buddy showed up a little later.
We all enjoyed some good food, a few tales and more laughs. It was good to get to see the gang again.

Bob, Z and Karen took pics. I didn't bring my camera.

Temps were in the low 70's. Blue sky, no clouds and lots of bikes everywhere. It was a great day and an excellent ride. I'm hoping the weather next weekend is just as good.

All I know is that it is a bone, you sit on it and you're happy to ride all day...

Damn that was good fun yesterday. I'm still buzzing from it. Haven't done anything like that in a long time. And it was good to see Gordy again and meet Andy, Fish and his friend Charlie. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for similar weather next Sunday.

I recently "discovered" Brian Blessed. I just kept wanting to say this yesterday to Gordie, except I don't possess the same deep, booming voice..,

Good Times! Always a pleasure to catch up with Z and Karen and admire their bikes; really glad Gord could make it, and meet some new BA members and friends, and see the latest on Bob's rocket. Hope to cut the time loose to make the ride to Chehalis this weekend; the Speedie is going to be the mount for that trip. It'll definitely be a bonus if the weather cooperates. Patty'll probably be shopping for a bike so she might not make it.

Cool video Z. I'm really impressed by that little GoPro camera!
Any chance of uploading raw video with no music so we can hear our pipes?? I know you ran out of memory, but I'm hoping you can hear all of us when rolling up to some of the stoplights.

No...it ran out of video shortly after we got on 202 so those stops where we finally grouped up were not caught.

Very nice, but it was to short. AmyLee and I picked up the go pro Hero this winter, used it a little on a ski trip with good results. So where did you mount the camera? We have yet to try it on our Triumphs. We plan on having it mountable for either a helmet or bike at Dwights SWTF in June.

Bob,
Yeah, the video is shorter than I wanted too but when your the lead rider AND you tend to ride faster than the rest all the footage is rolling roads.

I have tried a few locations for the camera. I have a sticky mount on the rear fender, one mount on my engine guard (I need to arrange it so it doesn't shoot sideways, those shots kinda sucked), one on handlebars and I have a roll bar mount that will fit on the front fork tube.

Ill have mine with me as well. If you have someplace we can load video to we can team up for a SWTF video. Ill have my laptop with me.

Gordie,
This is from the GoPro FAQs:
Recording time will vary according to the resolution setting used and the card capacity.
Here are the average recording storage times for a 32GB SD card:
1080p (30 fps): 4h 21m
960p (30 fps): 5h 26m
720p (60 fps): 4h 21
720p (30 fps): 8h 09m
WVGA (60 fps): 8h 09m

More info here: Gopro FAQs

I had it set to 720/60fps (this is better for slow mo, less digitizing).

I also have a USB cable run to it for power. I run the little video pack so that eats up battery life. If I remove it I can record for about 2.5 hours but I get significantly less (again, I run the video pack on it).

I'm impressed by how really small that camera is, yet the video quality is outstanding. I'm thinking I might get me one. It's too bad the memory card was full. I was hoping y'all could see/hear us rumbling through Redmond. I was trying to get my bike up close and playing with the throttle at the stop lights.

A little after the fact, but I have some pics to add to the mix...

Mine and BFCG's bikes having a rest on the way to Bellingham that morning. (Btw, BFCG joined the forum as "Flat_Penny")

Me taking a pic of Bob taking a pic of Z's and Karen's bikes.

Gord, his America, and what's left of some poor sheep covering his seat.

Quite a motley crew hanging around Bob's Rocket 3, mine and Steve's Americas, and BFCG's Sporster.

Similar pic, different angle...

And one more shot to be sure I get Andy's bike included.

It was a might fine day!
