On a quest for performance gains, these peaked my interest. Does anyone have any particular opinion on, or experience with these?

Bit pricey Keith. Does the minimal increase in power outway the cost.

Keith a few years back I bought a set from Bellacorse when they first became available. They were never installed because they are a straight manifold designed to fit a Bonney not angled like they should be to fit our style of bike. I returned them for a refund. About 2 yrs. ago Fast Fred was supposed to make me a set that would fit properly. These were to go along with the Head and Carbs he was going to do up for me but he has had some personal problems.

Thanks for that info, Kit. I phoned Sean at B-C to ask him about the angle problem you mentioned. Sean informs me that his manifolds are the ONLY ones out there that do indeed have that crucial angle needed for OUR bikes. Upon further discussion it came to light that for them to fit, I need to get rid of the airbox. Now I'm seriously considering doing that before riding season because I mean it DOES make sense. So I may have opened a can of worms here but just wanted to clarify that those billet manifolds do and will fit our bikes.

Hey Keith I guess they must have changed them. My bike did not have an airbox at the time but the manifold install would have required filter alterations plus a bunch of other things I can't remember. I think at the time no matter who you bought them from they were coming from Southbay or now called TPUSA. Sean should know if they will fit our bikes. I may just have to look into them again. As long as he was absolutely sure they will fit and keep the carbs level as they are now without a bunch of alterations.

If my memory is at all what it used to be didn't somebody do this like two summers ago. Gregger maybe? Was a green bike I think. Anyway I've thought about manifolds like that too. Would love to hear your two cents.

Well Kit, from what Sean was telling me, those billet manifolds are his 'cause he mentioned how it's just a matter of time and someone will copy them. He doesn't bring them in from somewhere else and tells me he has 15 pairs ready for whoever wants them.
Food for thought...

I hope Roadworthy picks up on this thread. He put on billet manifolds from Fast Freddy (Freddy, not Eddy), along with polished carbs about 2 years ago. Here is that thread. The Long Awaited Much Anticipated...

Yeah I was looking at this thread, don't know what I can say that hasn't already been said. All the info I know is in my other thread, I'm not sure if these are identical or just similar to the ones I have. I can tell by the pics that those aren't completely smooth inside like mine. Sean is a good dude, if you call him I'm sure he'll give you some numbers to go with it. I don't know if I would bother without doing something to the carbs too though.

Hey, Dave. I remember that thread it was a great one, and the one I was remembering. So Freddy ended up porting your carbs and then you bought the new manifolds to replace the rubber ones that are stock, right? I tried to click on his website, but it didn't work anymore. Any information you have or could share would be greatly appreciated....for Keith I mean, I would never want to make my bike go faster-yeah right-haha

They look fantastic Keith. I remember asking questions about these not so long ago and it was mentioned they didn't add much if any extra performance gains.

IMHO though, they look nice enough to buy anyway, but if they did in fact help to increase power then doubly worth it so to speak.

As far as you're creating a can of worms, I know there are some who don't like the pod filters but I'm not one of them, so if you did go that way I am confident you would be glad you did.

Actually, I've never heard of anyone who hasn't been happy but unfortunately some wouldn't admit it anyway. Am I repeating myself cos AGAIN I'm not one of them

Fred bored my carbs and designed the billet intakes I have himself. They are a 1 only set (I think).

I got some for my Speedmaster I believe from British Customs if I remember right. Yes they made a performance improvement according to my butt dyno.--- To be fair my stock plastic manifolds were warped and sucking in air thus it was running lean. Bike was popping badly when slowing down. Put on the new billet intakes and no more problem. Wish I had dyno runs both ways, but I don't sorry people.

Sometimes the ol' butt dyno is the BEST test. Glad to hear you found they made a difference, Michael. Question: Do you still have the front of your airbox in place (the wall facing the carbs)? Just trying to figure out if everything still fits with airbox in place.

The first time I removed my carbs, I stuck my finger in the Int. manifolds to feel around for how well they fit to the head and I found both sides badly misaligned, there is enough slop in the two 6mm (?) bolts that hold them on, that I was able to manipulate the heat spacer, the alloy tube and the fit to the head a lot better then as they were assembled at the factory. Locating pins or just closer tolerances would make sense on this component of our engines, IMHO

Mountainman I do not have the airbox in place anymore. I am running the K&N's filters currently.

That's what I figured. I'm already planning next winter's mods and ditching the airbox is part of it. I want to go deeper into her soul now that she's dressed to the nines!!

Roadworthy, you may have the only set of Fast Fred modified carbs and billet intakes, but I at least have a set of the billet intakes. I'm not sure if they improved my performance because I didn't do a dyno run prior to installing them, but they sure are eye candy and often noticed by other bikers.

I just wish now that I would have let Fred do the carb modification for me when I got the intakes done. He was willing to give me a great deal on the carb modification, however, people started reporting problems with him responding to them, finishing projects that were paid for, etc., at about that same time, so maybe it was best that I declined his offer.

He was a great guy to talk with, seemed to really know his stuff, and did a great job on my manifolds. I really wish he was still in business.

Yep! I had a set of carbs all boxed up and ready to ship and then all of a sudden I could not get in touch with him and no return calls and then he was gone! I was bummed! I also heard that he had some health issues too, not sure what the real deal was.

From what I can gather reading people's experiences with FF, he knew a ton of stuff and was an asset to our community.

Reading between the lines something occurred in his life which unfortunately prevented him from continuing his good work and like others, I too would love to have him still here given the impact he had in the short time he was around.

I know for one thing, his name keeps Popping up so that's gotta mean this bloke had something many of us appreciated.

A real shame.

We don't know that. Regardless of the situation, from my perspective FF bears responsibility for failure to communicate.
