Hey Guys, I need help! I'm doing my fork oil change (BADLY needed!) and the first fork seems to be stuck in the collapsed position! I'm using the instructions I got off of here together with the manual. I pulled out the spacer, washer and spring, and the inner tube lowered into the outer tube. I did push down on it since I thought it wasn't all the way down, but now, no matter what i do, I can't extend the inner tube. I've tried everything, rotating the inner and outer tube while tapping (hard and soft), and even put the spring back in with a deep well socket to put spring pressure on it while tapping gently. I've got it hanging now under the tension from the spring to see if it will unseat itself if left alone. Unless someone here has any better ideas, it sounds like a trip to Triumph up in Ft. Collins, hope not though!

Dunno man..never been there but you might try zipping out the bolt at the bottom of the forks and see what happens.

Got a air compressor? There must be a way to inject air in it somehow? Put the top cap on and one of the two bottom allen bolts, insert a rubber tipped safety sprayer? Play with it.

Thanks Chy, I'm thinking about that to see if it is vapor locked.... Just want to make sure not to disturb any seals and end up doing a complete fork rebuild....

I believe that is the trick. I had the same darn issue in the past, wrestled with it for a couple of days and it finally broke free. Strange as heck., it's just one of those things that makes you scratch your head.

Well, how does this grab ya. Gave up, took it to the Triumph/BMW/Ducati place in Loveland, and they thought at first it was jammed bushing. Pulled it apart, and there is a bushing at the bottom of the Dampening Rod (called the Fork Cylinder on the parts list) that maintains alignment which was MISSING FROM THE FACTORY!!!! Yep, that thing being gone only becomes a problem when the Fork is fully compressed (like during fork fluid changes!!!). And, best part is that you have to buy the whole Fork Cylinder assy (checked Bike Bandit too!) for a nice $87! Yeah, I AM going to call Triumph, even though I know it will be fruitless. This fork has never been opened at all, and even if it had been during a fluid change, this is part which is bolted through the bottom of the fork and would not have been touched regardless. I know what they'll say, but might as well try and get them to at least split the cost. The other fork came apart and went back together just fine. And Mike, if you did have this problem and loosening the bolt did the trick it may have been that your bushing is missing too, and loosening the bottom bolt allowed everything to line back up. Hmmm....

A number of fellows that had a fork stuck used a broom handle inserted in the fork tube. Tap the handle and it usually unlocks. I think Ian posted that some time ago.
