Crashed my 07speedy crossing the CSX tracks at hwy92 and fish hatchery rd.. on the 1st.. right after the front when thru and was going to seek a used car.. never made it.
was in LRMC trauma unit untill yesterday afternoon..
i came away w/ a child size bruise on my rt side.
fractured rib and scapula.. and seriously bruised lung.
really really hurts.. got a copy of the scans and will call the VA monday to follow up.. trauma docs reccomended surgery on the shoulder.. its really messed up .
but w/ only a part time job ..no insurance other than VA ..
i had to refuse.. GEICO has coverage on the bike.. looks like so far tank, bars.. controls.. headlight . and now told sheared the lower tree .. damn what a hit.. one footboard damaged beyond repair.. not sure what else..
also told by geico that because i wasnt hit by anyone .. just me and the RR track.. that they wont pay the hospital bill. anyone heard of that before ?? .. more to follow .
hope to go see the bike and take some pics today..
Barb found a lot of other damage as she dug deeper.. wow.
all i remember is seeing the rear wheel comming around on the right side ..and waking in the ambulance not far from the hospital..i will be unable to work .. for close to a month.. we will see .. pics to follow if I get that way ..

That sounds like a bad situation on top of having a wrecked bike. Glad you weren't damaged beyond repair, hope everything works out for you.

Very sorry to hear about your crash but glad to know you'll be okay in the end. Geeze man you must still be is some sort of shock over this... I can only imagine what you're going through. Just remind yourself that this too shall pass.

Serious bummer, man. But I don't understand how it happened? You were crossing railroad tracks and wiped out? How? Was it wet? Slick? Someone cut you off?

Seriously hope everything works out for you. Don't know what to tell you about the insurance not paying the hospital bill. I'd look into that...maybe go through your coverage book if you have it around somewhere.

If you have medical coverage on your insurance I would think that they should pay.
Otherwise you're S.O.L.

Yeah, I have GEICO and bumped up my coverage significantly after watching Freedom crash. Yikes...

Wow that's a shame brother. Glad to hear you're repairable and walked away. Sometimes things happen so quickly you have no time to react or have any idea what happen.

It's the little ones at low speed that seem to make a mess of the bike and yourself... Still feeling the result of my crash this time last year.. Hope all ends well, the bike can be replaced unfortunately us humans take a lot more heeling....

That is bad news, sorry to hear it. Hopefully you can recover quickly. Don't really understand how it happened.

best i can remember .. i saw the rear wheel comming around as i braked for the traffic lite..yes it had finished raining.. and i know my machine very very well.. you cant make her get outta line.. have locked up the rear brake before and/or grabbed a handfull but very little complaints from the Speedy.. very controlable.. i got knocked out pretty quick.. dont remember hitting .. sliding .. anything about the wreck.. check you insurance .. make sure you ASK for medical coverage.. or BET it wont be there...
I'm a bit of a mess... nasty bruises inside and out..and the shoulder is deff gonna require surgery .. VA will take care of it all... the bike.. lol she aint so pretty but. still looks good in the showroom at Rays Sunshine Cycle.
i was able tohelp Barbara w/ id on the emglo mirror heads etc.. bub slash cuts.. Ray will tear into the front end monday and see how much damage there is under the covers..
uppers look bent..one riser pulled.. more damage underneath
the great part .. is last week i changed my coverage from $500 deductable to lol $250. and it took effect lmao 9:00am the day of the accident which was around 1:15pm .. my speedy will be much much better long before i am . thanks again all..and check your coverage.. pls.

one last quick add... thank God for footboards. had never ridden them before .. when i got the bike i wanted to get regular pegs.. but was talked into "trying it" besides offering greater comfort and positions .. they really save the engine covers and most everything on the sides .. wont be too long she will be back better than ever .. and the crash will let me off some of the stuff i was wanting to change ... thanks again guys.. ride safe . its all we can do ..

I dont understand what happened either..
wrecker driver picked her up middle of the tracks .. there was no other truck / car involved.. has to be crap washed onto the new fancy crossing .. still want to talk to a few more folks.. but dont have a clue att... have been riding for most of my life.. and this was deff a 1st for me. lets make it a last ,,, lol

Ouch & then some! lucky you have the VA. I'd be getting Dr Nick from the Simpson's doing surgery in an alley.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune and hope things will return to normal with haste. Having lived within a half mile of the very same tracks back in the day, I know how rough that crossing can be.
If anything good can come out of this, it is to find out another member is close to me (I'm in Winter Haven) and that Ray's will wrench on Triumphs. I actually lived in an apartment near Ray's shop when he first opened but haven't been that way in a while.

PIP (Personal Injury Protection) if offered for a bike in Florida has a limit of 10,000 bucks. I am pretty sure you already exceeded that limit. It is an optional coverage as above if offered for a bike.

Med-Pay (Medical Payments) is similar however it only covers medical where PIP covers lost wages also. It is excess over all other valid collectible health insurance. So that would not have helped you.

Uninsured Motorist Bodily Injury Coverage (also called BIUM) would cover all as a claimant against your own carrier. I think that is what they are telling you. Had you been hit by somebody else who left the scene, was without insurance, or under-insured the UM would kick in.

In any event, thank goodness your relatives are not posting this. An accident you live through on a bike is a good accident.

(This is the reason I will never buy another new bike that does not have ABS. It sounds a lot like a wash out. IMHO the jury is not still out on that technology.)

Got a great letter from GEICO today LMAO .. telling me i deff DONT have medical coverage.. and to please submit the hospital bill to my non-exsistant health care ins... lol
heres the good part.. sent me a declarations page.. showing the drop in deductable .. from 500 down to 250 .. said something about endorsments effective 3/2/2011
and a survey !!! whooooo hoooo !! .. saying thier fantastic service blah blah blah .. ... I hold a letter recieved from the examiner... the lady followed up our phone conversation.
w/ yep .. no pip .. no medical.. but she goes on to say.
she sees a $500 deductable ..w/ a req to drop to $250.
says it went effective 3/1/2011 at 9am. lmao
and the crash was 3/1/2011 around 11:45 . she will get back to me as has requested a copy of the police report to verify time of accident... this an ace .. as the wreck was 1:15 p. smiles.. owwie ..
it was dated 3/3/11 .. if i read right the regional V.P. george rogers ..(endorsement effective 3/2/11)
is trying to slip one here.. got him.. watch the suits boys and girls.. otherwize .. went to va today for some scans .. x-rays .. there ortho folk will look at thefilms and call me ..or send me an appt.. hurts real bad..snuck a peek at the scans today and dont see anything really major out of place and VA ortho says ..very rarely will you mess it up enough to require surgery to reconstruct..

the RR crossing had gotten to the point it was hurting cagers . trucks anything ..so they took it up .. made it very strong.. flat ..rebuilt it .. and yes the wrecker driver said he picked her up in the middle of the tracks
still never in many many years of riding have i experienced such .. washed out .. i have stomped the brakes .. rode that and many other crossings.. and when i did lock up the rear.. she barley shimmied .. never kicked out .. dunno what got us ..but i had been got.. spanked..
