Does the wire going into the transmission near the oil filter lead to an internal neutral switch? Is the switch closed in neutral?

Ive heard of a guy who had a leak around the neutral switch wire, so you could be on the right track.

Yes that is the location of the switch wire.....Closed in neutral. Pull wire off of the terminal. Check for continuity between crankcase and wire terminal.
