Hi folks!
Right now I have just the metal baffle with no packing in my bike, but I've been thinking about adding a little packing to remove the harsh hi--end the pipes have at highway speeds. So how do you remove 25% of the original packing? Do you split it in the middle, or what? Or do you guys who have done this just cut away a little from the glassfiber, so that it don't cover the length of the baffle? (70% covered, 30% just metal baffle for example?)

Ive only repacked my pipes once but from what I remember you would remove the material, split it in half then wrap it back up. I used wire mesh to keep mine all together.

Stop by your local bike shop and ask for some exhaust repack material. My shop sold me a pack of FMF (the dirt bike people) brand material for around $15. There's a thread here somewhere. I used "hardware screen" from Lowe's to wrap around the packing. Cut the screen to size, twist tie a few wires to hold it around the packing and slip it into the pipe. I had removed about 25% from my SS pipes when I bought them, but a check a few years later revealed most of that had eroded, leaving very little in the pipe (and that harsh top end sound got a little old). I'll try to dig up my old thread and/or pix.

Here's my exhaust baffle and what remained of my packing material at 25k. This shows the "hardware screen" as well. The screen material is easy to work with, but wear gloves.

Thanks Al! I remember reading about that a long time ago using the hardware screen etc, but never really got around doing it so I've been riding with just the metal baffle for two years. The high end rasp is a little to much so now I'm gonna do this.
I got the packing material, was just confused and started overthinking on how to best shave it down a little bit. lol

I just kind of unrolled it, than rolled it around the pipe. Don't put it on too tight, I think looser is supposed to absorb more sound.
