I recently bobbed the rear fender on my 05 speedy. After I posted pics in the members rides section I noticed how ugly the tabs were after I removed the rear pegs. I didnt want to spend $90 plus to get finishers sent to Aus. This is what I did... Marked out the shape I wanted for the finisher. Cut it out. Filed the edges. Paint and mount.

Good idea and heaps lighter. I love that exhaust. Just out of interest, what did you cut the fender with?

That cut-off piece can be used for a couple things.
I was going to use it as a front air dam, fit perfectly around the "tool bag" at the bottom/front of the frame. But, I ended up using it as a rear fender extension at the front of the rear tire, from where the original rear fender stops, down toward the swing arm, to help keep road grime from spraying on my swing arm/rear crankcase. With the air box removed, this was needed.
I made a Triumph Patent Plate shaped brass plate to fill in the recessed area, and it offsets the gloss black paint very nicely, I must say.

Clever idea, any chance of a pic? I guess it will be hard to see it now it is in place though.

No, actually it's very much visible.
I just have it off right now to color sand (the black paint), compound, polish, and wax before putting it on for good. But I can probably get a pic. of the brass plate/fender extension while it's off the bike.
I'll be putting the clip-on bars on this weekend, so I was hoping to post an updated photo of the bike with the new bobbed fender, the fender extension, and the clip-on bars all installed.

I'm not gonna be able to touch-up, color sand & compound for about three more weeks, so I took this pic, just to show ya the plate set in the indent.
