Hi all, first off thanks Bill for the list.

My main reason for the post is, I've just been talking to Frank and for those who don't know he has bought himself a Harley.

Yeah I know, what the , and all the rest of it.

The fact of the matter is, the type of riding Frank does is two up with his lovely missus Jo. They are retired and it's an excellent way for them both to see the country cheaply together the way they like to, i.e. riding.

Well from what I can gather Frank had been thinking about getting a bigger bike cos with his missus and luggage he found with the long haul riding he does in this big country of ours was just a bit tough for the 865cc power plant cos it didn't have that extra oomph he needed when required.

Well being an ex pom we know he loves Triumphs but just like Goldilocks , he found the Rocket was just too big. Then he tried the T-Bird and because Frank is just a tad short in the leg department, he just couldn't quite reach the ground properly. Then he hears there's this Harley (can't remember which model - sorry) which has 2,500klm's on it and is selling for $10K less than new and more importantly, has a saddle height a full 2" shorter than the T-Bird. The Harley dealer even put it on a truck for him and had it shipped down from a town 150Klm away so he could have a ride.

Mmm, What's a bloke meant to do? He takes the hog for a big ride with Jo on the back and guess what, it's " Just Right".

So regardless of what you think about Harley's, No one can in the same situation I believe think any different to how Frank did. He needed a bike to suit his needs and found one at a bargain price and even with a fair few after market parts.

Well let's face it, you do what suits you for the type of riding you want to do and it just so happens the hog offered it. Simple.

Hey, I'm lucky I've got legs that are "perfect" (sorry Frank) so I can even buy a BMW GS if I want, but what would I do if I had those little legs. Who knows and who cares. I'm not Frank but we do know we all do what suits ourselves. That's life.

To those who don't like Harley's, may I suggest it's not exactly the bike but some of the rider's of em that's the issue here, and we know Frank is a top bloke.

Anyway, I wanted to clear that part up cos it's like it's been the unsaid given the contentiousness so to speak. Me, I'm happy for him and Jo. I'm sure he would have liked to have stayed with Triumph but given the various factors he's needed to manage, it wasn't possible. Hey, maybe he just prefer's it anyway for his own reasons. Fair enough I say. It's just the way of the world.

So there you go guys. Yes he's gone to the dark side but he's still a riding buddy in my books which is the main thing.

I suppose the only issue now is whether Frank would be classified as a honorary attendee at Ozbam. The way I see it and I know we've talked about other bikes going and whatever but how important is it in the big picture. Are we going to be a bunch of elitist Triumph riders or just riders who prefer Triumphs.

I'm starting to think the latter now and I'm sure the group of us who thought of Ozbam to start with will probably be thinking the same.

I'd be interested to hear what the views are on this one. Particular those from Kent, Richard and Benny but of course being a democratic mob, everyone's opinion will be respected.

Stevie - I thought you weren't going now, so why would you care who IS going?

Stacka. This subject (do we welcome friends on other makes of bikes to Ozbam) was discussed before. My opinion then was "It doesn't bother me. It's still going to be about our bikes." Others were adamant it should only be BA and SM.

Then the rules were loosened to allow Boof to join us on his Bonneville. Cool.

My thoughts: This forum is more about a good bunch of people who share a passion about our bikes- but equally importantly - we get on well together and help each other and enjoy each other's company.

I don't think the presence of other makes or models of bikes is going to threaten that. I'm confident that our bikes won't be overshadowed by other makes that come along and I don't think the meet is in danger of being hijacked.

I say, "If Frank still wants to come, he's welcome."

Me think me like

Glad everyone so far is cool with non Triumph riders going.

I love my bike and have my preferences and even though it would be unlikely I'd ever buy a harley, one of my best mates has one and it doesn't phase me one bit. I guess we have purists, those that don't give two rats and everything in between.

Now that you've mentioned it Ken.

What kind are they?

What length are they?

I might very well be interested.

Might have to get the good Friar to open a seperate section for Harley parts for sale.

If we do come be careful what you say around my other half, she used to be the bouncer at the pub we owned.

I probably wrote half of the Harley jokes you know.

The last Harley I owned before this one was a 1969 Shovel, that was the biggest joke I ever rode.

A tangled web of miscommunication - at least from my perspective. I saw Stevie's post following Stacka's and the shaking head and totally misunderstood.

Funny that cos the mate of mine I referred to in my last also bought a shovel in the late 70's. It was a rigid and he nearly broke his girlfriend's back thinking it was a good idea to ride to Adelaide from Canberra. She flew home btw

Anyway, I never really saw him riding it much and even though he looked the part with tatts, chains off his belt, and long beard , he couldn't even change the oil, so I suspect one of his more mech' minded riding "mates" probably traded a case of "VB" for it. I reckon his mate lost on that deal.

Frank, don't start. I know what ya thinking.

Well, because your post followed directly on Stacka's "War & Peace" post which I'll dare to paraphrase: "Maybe Frank can still come to Ozbam - what do you think?" (notice Stacka I said that in less than 12 words ).
I saw Frank's name with scratched in bold and I didn't notice your 'not going' at all. I realised that this was just John's previous post that you quoted. But I saw the shaking head below and thought that was you voting about Frank.

Now, after reading your post properly, I see your 'not going' beside your name. The error was mine Stevie - not reading thoroughly and making a quick assumption about the context. Again, I apologize.

Hi all,

Apologies for my absence but I've had a few issues to deal with which have been out of my control.

Without going into all the details on the net, depending on what happens in the next week or so, it may turn out I'm not able to make Ozbam.

This is in no way anything other than personal issues but fyi they aren't related to relationships or finances.

All will become clearer for me in the nest week or so as I try to organise myself so I can still make it but I just can't guarantee anything at the moment.

Of course like everyone else going, I too have been waiting nearly six months for this meet to happen. I've just had a number of varying circumstances unusually come together at the same time putting Ozbam lower on my list of priorities.

If you can Just give me a week or so to confirm one way or the other I'd appreciate it.

In the meantime, I'll pm Richard (foglefar) considering amongst others from the original Bribie meet, he's been out there working behind the scenes.

Regardless whether I can make it or not, the ride to and from, the venue, meeting each other and pawing over each other's bikes is what OzBam is all about. So, whether I get there or not, in reality the only difference will be whether Ferdie is able to socialise with his peers, and I can tell you, so far he's not too happy with me at all.

cheers
stacka

I thought I should post some details for everyone. Stacka is iffy and Benny isn't answering emails ATM. These are only suggestions and no liability for stepped-on toes will be accepted.

OZBAM DETAILS

Fri 5th, Sat 6th & Sun 7th August 2011
Location: Bulahdelah, NSW

Accommodation: Mount View Motel
Pacific Highway,
Bulahdelah NSW 2423
Phone: (02) 4997 4292
( web page here )
Most have booked here - some for Fri & Sat, some for just Sat.

Other accommodation includes:
Plough Inn Hotel
77 Stroud Street, Bulahdelah NSW 2423
(02) 4997 4285

Arrival and departure times: casual - some arrive Fri, some Sat, some depart Sat avo, most depart Sunday.

Activities: the only thing organamised is a trip to the Nabiac Motorcycle museum ( web page here ) on Saturday. Open times: 9am-3:30pm Admission $12.00. It's 40kms from Buladelah.
Timing for the museum visit is flexible, but to work in with Saturday arrivals & departures, I suggest we hit the Museum around 10am and leave a bit after 2pm. Apparently it's well worth a 3 hr visit (plus lunch somewhere).

Other activities such as meals and entertainment will be left to chance and, just in case there isn't a pole dancing club in Bulahdelah, I shall pop a deck of cards in the luggage (joking).

FYI - Kent and I are travelling from Brisbane on Thursday via Summerland Way (weather permitting) and stopping at Nymboida Coaching Station Thursday night and again on Sunday night for the return trip. We will then do the southern half of the trip via Armidale and the Thunderbird Way or Oxley Way or Waterfall Way depending on weather. We depart Sunday for the northbound trip via Nymboida again and various routes to arrive Brisbane on Monday.

Wooohooo - motorcycle road trip.

Cheers, Richard

Well guys, it's official Stacka's not attending.

Why you ask?

Well I do feel I owe an explanation's considering I was one of the "Bribie Bunch" (not Brady) who came up with the idea in the first place.

In November my Daughter is getting married on Bribie Island at the Gold Club. Now being the father of the Bride I've been meaning to fix a tooth that has been missing and which according to my missus makes me look like a bogun. Apologies to anyone with missing teeth but this is my missus talking right.

Regardless, I do want to look as good as I can for my daughter as it's her big day and like most dad's, they would do anything for them.

Well, in Australia the Dentists imho have this unfortunate propensity to charge the sort of money which I believe is helping pay off their Sydney Harbour Mansions.

Now I reckon I work just as hard as this lot and whilst I didn't go to Uni for whatever years etc, I'm not going to let them "steal" my cash just because they think they can.

So I'm off OS to have my entire mouth done for a fraction of the cost of the equivalent dental work in Aus and, I get a two week Asian experience thrown in.

Now the "Bribie Boys (and girl)" know as a firie I get told when I have leave so I can't change times frames but you'll never guess what day I fly out. Yes folks, Saturday the 6th August or about the same time as you guys are riding to Nabiac

Anyway, I'm sure you all will understand the situation I've been in ie between a rock and a hard place, but I'm also sure you guys will be able to survive without me

To be honest I've got mixed emotions on it cos I am excited about my trip OS but it's just such a shame the moons aligned to keep me away from Ozbam.

Btw, I'm still riding up to see my daughter a week before I go so I'll be flying out from Brisbane. Maybe I can still catch up for a beer with the "Bribie Bunch"

So that's the story gentlemen. What I'm hoping is, Ozbam turns out great and there are others in the future so I can go to the next one, fingers crossed.

Again, apologies for my non attendance but I'm certain most Dad's out their would understand.

stacka

PS: From me, thanks to Richard for taking up the reins so Ozbam didn't fizzle. Nice one Richard. I owe ya mate.

Also, you're right Richard. Nabiac is at least a 3 hour tour and don't forget to take your camera. One thing I enjoyed was being able to take photos of bikes that looked identical to ones I'd owned in the past. It's a truely memorable experience and one I plan to do again in the future.

Take care and ride safe guys
